Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:30, fixed breakfast for Tia, Amy (my sister) and myself. I got about 6 hours of restless sleep, first 4 hours good, after that all i did was talk myself through the swim. The water was horrible Friday, and Saturday, big swells both days. However, I was talk that the lake was within USAT regulations and we would swim it. I was scared about the swim. Got to and set up transition about 6:55am, then walked down to starting line and watched the full swim turn.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 47m 54s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt good on the swim after it got started. All the fear and anxiety dissipated as I watched the waves. I almost got hit by 3 safety personnel I actually had to stop to let on cross in front of me, the second one I pushed out of the way, and the third scooted across when she saw me. I was not happy. I ended up breathing mostly to the left side. Looking back for me that seemed to be a natural instinct, because every time I tried to bilateral breathe I started to hyperventilate.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know that I would do anything differently. I got in the lake when the water was the roughest. If anything I would go to my parents several times over the summer and to open water swims in Lake Michigan.
Transition 1
  • 04m 12s
Comments:

I heard Tia and Amy cheer for me, I waved and stayed focused on getting going ASAP.
What would you do differently?:

Not worry about my area and stuff so much.
Bike
  • 3h 11m 44s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.52 mile/hr
Comments:

I did not have my computer on my bike, I took it off to protect it from the rain and it fell out of my bag in the back of my 4runner. I was angry. However, I rolled with it and decided to go by feel, old school, on the bike. I had to concentrate on keeping cadence high but comfortable throughout the race. They way my legs felt after the ride I accomplished this goal. I was able to stay hydrated during the race. My Infinit drink did the job.
What would you do differently?:

I will not be taking my computer off my bike again. Other wise I feel I road the best bike segment I could.
Transition 2
  • 04m 31s
Comments:

I had to pee and forgot to take my gloves off, I also got tangled when putting arms back in suit. I had to run gloves back to trans area.
What would you do differently?:

Other than not have to pee, nothing.
Run
  • 2h 25m 7s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran with my Fuel Belt full of Infinit. My belt would not stay still it kept sliding and spinning around my waist. I divided my run up by 3 mile segments planning to drink a bottle at 3, 6, 9 and 12. This is what I did for the most part. I decided to drink at mile 11 rather than 12. I am glad I did. However, because I had peeing on my mind I forgot to drink 16oz of Infinit run during transition. Had I taken all that in maybe I would have been able to finish stronger. I ended up taking water at several stations. Overall I am happy with my hydration on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Drink my fluid while in transition.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, watched Sam finish. Then went and got in an clad water bath at medical. Got a bite to eat, tore down transition and went to cabin to shower and relax. Later went and watched a friend finish Full Rev.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My running. I need to work harder on my running speed. I focused on miles and not speed this training cycle.

Event comments:

I enjoyed this race. I can see room to improve.
