Pre-race routine:

For brakfast I has 3 eggs and a piece of toast with 18 oz of poweraid to rehydrate. I did one last minute check on my gear and then made the long treak down to the transition area 2 hours before the race started. Once at the transition are I set up and then proceded to warm up.
Event warmup:

I did a 15 min slow jog to warm up followed by 10 mins of strettching accompied with some joging to stay warm. After this I Put on my wetsuit and did about 5 mins of swim warmup.
Swim
  • 30m 52s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

Overall I think the swim went well. I tried out a new pair of mask type goggles which i thought might be a problem but ended up being awesome and made sighting much easier. My navigation was better then last year but i still need to work on do heads-up free style for a few strokes to sight then switching to breast stroke which slows me down. My wet suit was a little tight and made it hard to get into a rythem at the begining as i felt like i was being choked. The last half of the swim I finialy got into a rythem a finished the swim hard. I did not swim very far off cource thus making my swim about the right length with much less zig zag like last year.
What would you do differently?:

I would work on my navigation and open water swimming more often before the race so that i can get my speed and endurance up. I would also not fasten my wet suit so tight around the neck.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

I think this transition went exceptionaly well as it was still very low in time even though my wet suit was stuck on one ankle and i had to sit down to get it off.
What would you do differently?:

Work on getting the wetsuit off faster. I also need to learn how to jump on the bike with the shoes on the bike and put them on while ridding.
Bike
  • 1h 44m 8s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 14.32 mile/hr
Comments:

The ride up lynch hill was very hard on my legs and i took a lot of time slowly working my way up the hill. After climbing lynch hill the first half of the ride went really well and I spun my way up all the hills and pushed it on the way down. At the turn around my quads seemed to be a little worked and were starting to hurt. Also theough out the ride i tried a copple times to get out of the saddle while pushin it up hills and my quads felt like they were going to istantaniously cramp up. But over all I was only off my goal of 1:30 by 15 mins. My fluid and cloric intake was just about right and overall I thought this was a great ride.
What would you do differently?:

I would push it up the hills faster and get out of the saddle every once in while throught out the climbs so that I could change the musles that were being used. I would use airobars so that I could get into more airodynamic positions through out the bike portion.
Transition 2
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

This transition was not so good. At this point my feet were numb and it was hard to run to my rack position but i did it anyways. When I arived at my rack position I was fatiged and had trouble getting my socks on so that I could go out on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Use shoes that require no socks and get new bike shoes that do not cause my feet to be numb.
Run
  • 1h 09m 11s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was better then last year but could have been much better if my foot did not hurt. I had very little cramping of my quads like i did last year but i has severe pain in my right and sligh pain in my left foot. This started about a quater throuh the run and was a sharp pain in the ball of my foot. It felt as if the bones of my feet were hitting the pavement with no shoe inbetween. This caused me to run walf the majority of the run.
What would you do differently?:

Get new shoes that give more cussion bettween the ball of my foot and the hard pavement.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked around for 15 mins then jumped in the lake to cool down and followed this by 10 mins of stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

MY lack of open water swiming, lack of hill climbing on the bike and pain in my feet during the run.
