Pre-race routine:

Drove down the morning of the race. Wasnt as nervous as a have been in the past. Picked up my packet got my transition all set up and then watched a few of the swim waves go. This was my first pool swim triathlon.
Event warmup:

No real warmup except for a couple of laps in the warm up pool.
Swim
  • 09m 3s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had decided to wear my tri top in the pool so that I didnt have to mess with it in transition. This turned out to be a huge mistake. The top is a bit big on me because I have lost about 35 pounds since last season. It turned into a parachute in the water it was pretty bad. I should have tried it once in the pool I train in but oh well live and learn. I was the very last person out of the water in my wave start.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely not wear my tri top. My swim should have been at least a minute quicker.
Transition 1
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Pretty good transition but it is a long run to get there. found my bike spot with no problem took the extra couple of seconds to get my socks on and was off.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe a little bit faster run to get to my transition.
Bike
  • 34m
  • 12 miles
  • 21.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike. The road was only partially closed so due to a lot of slower bikers out in front of me and the traffic I got held up a couple of times. I tried to just stay aero the whole time and put out a solid effort.
What would you do differently?:

Looking back I could have road a little harder and still been fine on the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

Transition was fairly long again but once I got there it went really quick.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe get out of my shoes and run in my socks instead of my biking shoes.
Run
  • 19m 56s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a fairly good run. Ran negative splits which is always nice. I havnt done any speedwork at all since my "A" race this years is Ironman CdA so leg turnover wasnt quite what it could be but overall pretty happy with my run.
What would you do differently?:

start my push for the finish at the beginning of the last mile.
Post race
Warm down:

talked with other people from the Portland Tri Club and drank a little water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No speed work to speak of at all in the last 6 months.

Event comments:

The OSU Tri team put on a really great race. Things were well organized and ran smoothly. Will come back and do the race again for sure.
