Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:00 am, had a piece of toast and cottage cheese. Departed at 4:30 am and arrived at the race @ 5:30. Had a cup of coffee, banana, a yoghurt bar 2 hours prior to start and a Gu 20 minutes before start.

Felt comfortable the whole time while swimming. I need to work on my technique, my pace is so slow, but overall felt pretty good coming out of the water.

My cycling time was 14 minutes faster than my time on this course 2 years ago. I passed about the same number of people that passed me on the course.

Struggled in the first mile as I felt sharp calf cramps. My heart rate was pretty high throughout the race, I think primarily due to the elevation. I walked for a minute and settled my heart rate down and then felt pretty good for the last two miles, no more cramping.
