Pre-race routine:

Tom dropped me off at Transistion and went to park the car. The garage is closer to the swim start than the T area, so. When I got to my bike, there was a wetsuit draped over it! I looked at the girl setting up next to me and said "Is that yours?" "no". The girl several bikes over said, oh, that's mine. "Get it the hell off my bike!" I mean, your bike is THREE bikes over, why are you putting your shit on my bike? Anyhoo, set up without further incident, grabbed the swim stuff and exited T at 630am and walked to the swim start.
Event warmup:

usual- potty, struggle with wetsuit, get wet and make a liquid donation to Tampa Bay. The opening sequence was awesome. They had three guys jump with parachutes and land right at the swim start on the grass. It was awesome.
With about 15 min to go before our wave started, I was messing around and noticed my goggles were cracked at the nosepiece. FREAK OUT MODE! Tom offers to go to the car, which is quite a hike, and no time. I see Sue. No spares. See Sherri and Kristee from tri club. No spares. See Irene and start whining. Irene is talking to Sister Madonna and I'm so upset I didnt' even go "oh, it's so great to meet you you are awesome". She is just listening to me cry about my goggles, bless her heart. Irene offers to go up to the announcer and have him blurt it out. So we go to the tent where he said to meet, and OMG at least 20 people came up with offers of goggles. I was so happy. So we went back to Sr Madonna and I'm about to cry... so we all posed for a picture. (Sharon send me that pic!) Then it was time to go to the corral. I was so distracted...

Comments:

I don't know what happened. I was having a hard time with this swim. It was a bit rough, and I was trying to reassure myself... didn't work. I couldn't get in a rhythm and I went off course once, missed a bouy, but it was a straight bouy so didn't worry about it, just got back inside the lane.
finally got to the stairs. I find it easier to crawl up them doggie style instead of stand up straight. I've always done this and it works for me, so... more traction.
What would you do differently?:

swim faster, sight more, and not get upset before the start.

"WOW, look at all the bikes". At least on my rack and the few surrounding it... yes!!! Wetsuit got a little uncooperative, so I was yelling "get the hell off me you damn suit".... like anyone even understood what I was muttering. Got it off, put on helmet which was weird, since Dylan wore it the previous day and it was still adjusted for his head... quick fix. sunglasses, shoes, bike... and out.
What would you do differently?:

learn a running mount.

Comments:

same course. There was a guy being attended to out by the golf course, right by one of those famous speed bumps. Old guy, his back was all messed up. I'm not good on the bike still, averaged 17 and low cadence. I slowed on the corners and slowed to suck 2 gels and drink. I have been focusing on high cadence this year, and I"m not quite as fast as I want to be..... yet.
oh and about at mile 15 I started getting... Hungry. For, like, food. weird. I've never been hungry on a bike before, ever. I was out of gel and all I had was gatorade but not much. I remember thinking some spiz would be good right now, shoulda bought some but thought it was too short a course to be worth it.
What would you do differently?:

I need an aerobottle. Bring more nutrition.

'WOW, look at all the bikes" :( I sucked. I wish I could do a rolling dismount. I"m not coordinated or brave enough to do it, maybe I should practice on the MTB with regular shoes then work my way up? Having that inner ear problem throws my balance off and makes me nervous about things like this.
Got to my rack, threw bike up, bike shoes off, socks off, they were all wet, I like fresh socks. Shoes on, grab hat, belt, endurolyte. As soon as I started running in T, the chip strap started digging into my ankle, I had to stop, remove the thing, and adjust it so it was looser and over my sock. They gave out velcro straps with chips but they are a bit stiff, next time I will use mine, I didn't think they would be so uncomfortable.
What would you do differently?:

use my own chip strap and learn how to get off the bike more efficiently rather than unclip, stop, swing leg, unclip.

HOT. HOT. first water stop I took the last endurolyte. I am happy to say I had no fat fingers today! I was feeling okay to begin with. I didn't sweat much on the bike. Once I hit the road, whoa. gosh. maybe it all just blew off, haha! Anyhoo, right around the first corner there is... betsy, 22legs, bunnyrunner (I think?) and fastcat74. I waved like crazy at them and kept running. So... off we go. Walked the water stops and two other occassions, yes, I counted them because I was telling myself water walking only. I saw a couple of people with "A" or "WC" on their legs so locked and loaded and picked them off easily. I was pushing myself, no walking, no 90 minute run, no 13 minute miles bull. I was tired, hot and all that but I kept plugging along. No cramps. HR was okay, nothing higher than I get usually. Other plan was NOT to pay attention to watch unless hitting the split button. Check. I tend to back off when HR gets too high as an excuse. Hypochrondiac maybe?
Hit the last corner and then it was a straight shot (well except for the turn into the chute). This part always seems to take forever! Rounded the BT chicks corner, betsy got a pic of me, I was hurting by now. Went as my legs could carry me which wasn't fast really, but moving... and my friend Joe was at the finish line and he draped me with those nice wet cold towels.
What would you do differently?:

I did pretty well and I am happy with this, I have improved so can't complain.
Post race
Warm down:

I think I was about to either cry or puke. Got liquids, got finishers medal, got bad chip and strap removed. Dazed and confused... hugged the wall for a minute an then got out of the chute. Saw Dylan right off, kind of hard to miss that kid, ya know.
