Age Group Rank = 4/23
Pre-race routine:

Cereal and Juice for breakfeast. Clifbar, 4 sports legs pills, water right before the race.
Event warmup:

5 minute bike, 2 minute run, 4 minute swim.
Swim
  • 24m 27s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

3rd leg of the triangle was a sea weed mess. Sea weed kept getting tangled around my arms, head, and legs. More annoying than anything but it definitely ruined my rythm and slowed me down a little. I estimate 2 foot visibility in the water which made it a little tough for drafting.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, maybe try a little harder.
Transition 1
  • 03m 29s
Comments:

Guessing about 400m distance (uphill) between swim exit and the transition area. I actually took it easy and walked about 100 yards of it.
What would you do differently?:

Not walk.
Bike
  • 1h 05m 32s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 22.75 mile/hr
Comments:

My legs were stiff and slow for the first 3-4 miles. The hills at the beginning of the course didn't help any. Once my legs were loosened up i started cruising.
What would you do differently?:

Not train as hard the week before the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions and actually care about doing them faster.
Run
  • 49m 44s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

The course starts out with a nice uphill which I took way to fast. I ended up paying for it later. The run course is pretty hilly with plenty of shade. There is also a short distance that is on a trail near the end of the race.
I was a mental midget and walked to drink at every aid station (every mile) which really killed my pace.
What would you do differently?:

Train hills and not be a mental midget.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for about 10 minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not running hills enough and not enough brick workouts.

Event comments:

Setup does a very good job putting on well organized races! This was actually the first setup race I was in that did not start on time. They started 6 minutes late because the patrol boats were late getting in the water. Can't fault setup on this and who really cares about six mintues? Not I.
