Swim

  • 900 yards
  • 01m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pool was quite warm even for me. Trainer recommended working on steady pace rather than speed to save energy for bike and run.
What would you do differently?:

My time should have been closer to 12:45-13:00. The swim is the easiest portion of a tri for me, so I should just swim it as fast as possible if it is a pool swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 29s
Comments:

Slower than it felt.
Bike
  • 55m 31s
  • 15.3 miles
  • 16.54 mile/hr
Comments:

The course was out and back on the same road. I came back about 5 minutes faster than I went out. A little nervous on the way out.

This is always a tough transition for me as I need to wear socks for the ride/run and it is tough to dry off quickly and put on socks.
What would you do differently?:

Should have gone out faster - More even pace. Work on getting onto bike faster at bike mount line.
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

Not a bad transition, although I was distracted and obstructed by participants with later start times entering the transition area to set up. I was a little worried as I set up on an end which was farther back from the bike start/finish, but close the begin of the run. I don't think my set-up location had an impact
Run
  • 27m 42s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran the course the weekend before and it was much easier. The long hill seemed harder than normal. I also felt out of breath the entire run.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Walked around - did some stretches. Drank lots of water and ate some orange slices. Watched teammates finish and shopped for tri-gear.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more time on the bike!

Event comments:

First time doing this annual race. It's a nice course, and it's only 5 minutes from my house. My goal was 1:40 and I went 1:40.5, so it was a good race. It was a very warm day and I was lucky to have an early start.
