Pre-race routine:

When i arrived at ilra i checked out the setup and got marked. back to the car to get my 2 bags (needed a bag just for water bottles because it was like fire outside). went straight to transition and laid out all my things in order. filled my aero bottle with a little gatorade and icecubes in hopes that the it would still be cold while on the bike. i also put a wine bottle chiller on the aero bottle. didn't help. changed my clothes and hung at the tent with kristen, dave, trish, runnergirl and my boys, joe and tim.
Event warmup:

after deciding to wear my wesuit i tried to stay in the water as long as possible to stay cool.

Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

even though my t1 area was well organized i was not when i get there. i couldn't get my act together. i took my bike off the rack before i had my helmet on.
What would you do differently?:

Bike
  • 49m 20s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 15.08 mile/hr
Comments:

bike was o.k. not great but o.k. the course was a winding one. i was doing fair and had decided i would have some gu at mile 9. after a struggle with getting the gu open my speed dropped considerably. after gu and a drink i came around a curve going about 5 mph and straight ahead was a good size hill about 50 yards ahead. fml. heat was not much of a factor.
What would you do differently?:

practice!!!! need to figure out a solution to gu on the ride.
Transition 2
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

good transition.
What would you do differently?:

need to run more without socks.
Run
  • 43m 29s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 14m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

the run was good for the first 1.5 miles. at the first water station i had some gatorade and that didn't settle well. between the heat and the nausea i felt shot. walked for a bit, ran, no water at the 2nd station, walked. then joe came out the run me in. we walked and talked for a bit and then i ran the last 1/2 in. longest 3 miles of my life.
What would you do differently?:

no gatorade on the run! drink less at the end of bike. run more.
Post race
Warm down:

fruit at the tent.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

heat.
