Pre-race routine:

Walked around nervously, while looking at how in control and in shape all the other people were
Event warmup:

Stretching, and some 25 meter sprint swims
Swim
  • 20m 12s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was pretty happy with this, as only my 2nd tri swim. I made a point to stay out of the mass of people, as this is a little too scary for me. I ended up swimming a little out of my way, but it was worth it. I was very happy with my swim time, and more importantly how I felt going into T1.
What would you do differently?:

Still getting used to distance swimming, so I don't know enough on what to do differently...yet.
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

I was happy with this time, but I had a problem getting up a little incline right out of the transition (on grass). I then spent the next 60 seconds trying to get my shoes clipped in.
What would you do differently?:

Didn't have my bike in an easy enough gear for the start.
Bike
  • 42m 5s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.68 mile/hr
Comments:

The ride was very slow for me.... Couldn't figure out what was going on really. Just seemed like I was peddling very hard for the speed I was going. Looked down, and both tires were really low on air, and of course, I had no pump. Suffered through it, but all in all, still really happy with this as it was only my 2nd tri, and I NEVER ride any type of hills (I live in hamtramck, train in detroit, and it is very flat.
What would you do differently?:

CHECK TIRE AIR PRESSURE BEFORE START IDIOT!!!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

All things considered, I couldn't have done much better.
What would you do differently?:

As I get in better shape, I hope I will be able to run through this area better.
Run
  • 43m 7s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 13m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

I just plain need to run better. Having no background in running, it is still difficult to critique this. I walked most of the way, but am not sure if I could have run more. Will get a better feel for running as time goes on.
Post race
Warm down:

jumped in the lake.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm still overweight, and learning.

Event comments:

I had fun, the people were great, and I look forward to doing the next 2 this summer, hopefully to see performance improvements.
