Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:00 am, back to sleep, alarm on the phone vibrated at 4:30 instead of audible tone and got up, hit button on the phone and it rebooted. Lucky to get up on time. Ate half a CLIF bar and got the family on the road to the beach.
Event warmup:

Not much, tiny bit of stretching. Almost racked in the wrong wave with the ladies, started looking around noticing that there were only girls around me. Fortunately I realized my error and got over to the correct rack.

Comments:

Very first time going into the waves at the beach so I was nervous. Took a practice run out before my wave start and dove under the first wave and my goggles popped off filling with water completely blinding me. Good lesson learned before the start, tighten the goggles for the waves. They were saying that the third wave was about to start but my swim caps were lining up. Was in the water swimming again for warm-up and decided to get to the start line. Glad I did, dude with a megaphone was saying that it was the third wave of amateur athletes but the fourth wave overall, so my wave. Could have missed my start there, they need to do a better job on that one. Wave starts seemed to be spread out pretty far. Had a total blast swimming in the ocean. Very cool to dive under the waves, work the swells and try to catch a wave back in. Was very nervous but it went great and I can't wait for my next ocean swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, was a lot of fun.

Comments:

Long run up the beach to T1. Walking out of the water, a little winded after the swim and the kids were yelling at me to run. Yeah, they hadn't just battled the Pacific. Some dude put his crap right behind mine and I had to navigate around all of his stuff to get to mine, total pisser. Got all my gear off/on and got out of there, wetsuit came off pretty easy.
What would you do differently?:

Nada, have the kids gaurd my spot so I don't get my stuff locked in by some other guy, lame.

Comments:

Good ride, passed a few guys on TT bikes which is always my goal. Got passed by a few guys. Different passing people in the opposite direction with the looped course. Would have preferred to go a little faster on the climb. Transitions included in splits, my Garmin had me at 26:44 with a 19.8 average mph.
What would you do differently?:

Nada, bike is my favorite per usual.
Transition 2

Comments:

Not as smooth as I would have liked racking my bike. Ok getting out of there.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, a little more space would have been good.

Comments:

Awesome run, super stoked with my pace. Was really surprised to see that I put up that pace. I felt really good and maybe could have pushed a bit harder. Ran with a guy for a little bit but he surged and smoked me. I guess the lack of hills really helps with my ability to run. I must need more flat courses. SpongeBob Elvis was at the run turnaround and some dude with a coconut bra, so that was sweet.
What would you do differently?:

Push it a little harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a bottle of water right at the end and found the family. No stretching at all. Feet were sore at the finish. Looked at the food and had no interest, stomach was a little tied up from the run. Got all my gear and headed for the vehicle. Did hit a Starbucks after for C and I decided to partake of a frap and lemon loaf, good stuff by then. Was nice to just bail out afterwards on this one, no possibility of the podium here with so many participants.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Crap in my way at transition. Lack of speed work in training.

Event comments:

As mentioned the start of the waves was confusing, at least for me. All good besides that. The Koz events are professional.
