Pre-race routine:

Flew down to Orlando on Thursday to have a few days before the race. Went down with family and my brother and his girlfriend, they got a free place to stay, we got free child care.

Friday we went to Universal Studios and hung around, probably not the best warmup for running 39.3 miles over the weekend. Also started couging on Friday, I figured that was just allergies
Event warmup:

None, we had a 2:50am wakeup call to catch the bus over to the start area. Race starts at 5:30am, lots of people. weather wasn't too bad. Sam and I sat down in our corral waiting for the start. They had the race linked up with a base in Iraq and they were running a half marathon at the same time, that was pretty cool.

Comments:

I had no idea if I could finish this race. Distance was obviously no problem but I had started to develop a knee problem about a week before the race. And right before that I had bronchitis so I wasn't coming into the race well trained.

The objective of the half was to finish and make sure I had plenty of energy for the full on the following day. Sam and I just took it easy. We stopped at every mile marker and walked for about 30 seconds. Visited porta potties which I never do in races.

Knee seemed to hold up well. There were lots of characters out on the course but we didnt' bring our camera Friday and the lines were actually pretty long so we didn't stop on Saturday, figured we could do that during the marathon.

At the end my calves were really tight, not sure if I was really over-compensating trying to stay off my knee or what but they don't normally tighten up like that, especially when my pace for this race was 3:00/mile slower than my training run pace.
What would you do differently?:

Not get sick/hurt before the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran back to bus so we could get to the resort. Ice bath, then compression tights to recover.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wasn't trying to go fast.

Event comments:

Pretty cool race, pretty much overshadowed since we were more worried about the marathon the following day.

Super flat course, would be easy to PR if not for all the Disney stuff. There is just so much to see on the course it would be tough to run fast the whole time.
