Overall Rank = 344/383
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 18/22
Pre-race routine:

Drove down with my sister who helped me get set up. Usual breakfast, Tims on the way.
Event warmup:

Not much, just a few strokes in the lake.
Swim
  • 19m 52s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 39s / 100 meters
Comments:

First time I have ever panicked in open water. Almost quit, sucked it up and did breast stroke most of the rest of the way.
What would you do differently?:

Really not sure - perhaps just more mass starts will help.
Transition 1
  • 03m 18s
Comments:

Overall transition time was slow, but better than last year. The bike rack was too low which made it difficult to unrack the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I'd love to learn how to get shoes on while riding. Also, getting a tri suit next year so won't waste time getting my shorts on.
Bike
  • 57m 44s
  • 25 kms
  • 25.98 km/hr
Comments:

This was the best part of the race. In retrospect I could have and should have pushed harder. Thrilled to have cycled up THE HILL - last year I had to walk. A big improvement, though, from last year and I did not have dead legs for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Push it harder.
Transition 2
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

This was slower than last year because I changed shoes this year. I still have not mastered the fast dismount or the quick shoe change.
What would you do differently?:

Practce the shoe change - this was a really slow transition time.
Run
  • 50m 24s
  • 7 kms
  • 07m 12s  min/km
Comments:

Still seems slow overall compared to others, but for me, this was a good performance. I wanted to hit 49 minutes, but a huge improvement over last year.
What would you do differently?:

Still need more training.
Post race
Warm down:

Collapse!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fitness and training - and the panic in the water

Event comments:

I like the race, but it's the only one I have done, so not much to compare it to. I improved on last year by 24 minutes, so pretty stoked about that!
