Pre-race routine:

Race #2, so not much of a routine. Packed the car last night. Woke up at 5. Coffee & balance bar. I could live on them. Stomach is good with them.
Event warmup:

I was nervous b/c this was my first lake race. So I got there really early and swam a lot. No Panic.
Swim
  • 09m 12s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 50s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was actually an excellent swim for me. As in "The Course Was Shorter Than Advertised". I have never swam 500m in under 10 min. Not in a pool, not ever.
Swim is weak spot. No surprise. I swam extra b/c I went wide. Didnt want any contact. Just wanted to get this race under my belt. The nice thing is that you can tank the swim and still place ok in your ag...
What would you do differently?:

practice. I am new at this. I gotta say that I really had fun on the swim.
Way more fun than doing laps. This lake is 15 min from my house. Guess what I will be doing over the next couple of months...
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

I could have been a little faster. But I didnt dawdle and my T's were ranked above my overall in AG.
What would you do differently?:

not sure. I had my shoes on the bike. I dont bother with the rubber bands. Glasses on, helmet on. Go. I guess I could run through the area faster. Run with bike to the mount line faster.
Bike
  • 44m 9s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Im new, but it seems like the bike for me is where the real chance to pick up time is. Yes I am a worse swimmer. But the amount of time spent on the bike is just so much greater. Improvement on the bike will move my ranking more.
What would you do differently?:

I lost focus. I also once again did not take the time to ride the course. That really needs to happen if I want to improve.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

took my feet out of the shoes too early. Had to dodge a wreck at the dismount line. That would be the worst!
I put on socks. It takes 10 seconds and makes my feet happy.
Run
  • 33m 54s
  • 4.1 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

My HR climbed through the 160's into the 170's so I guess I was workingFelt ok about the run. But kinda like the bike there just wasnt a sense of urgency.
What would you do differently?:

could have gotten to know the course better. I think that part of the intensity that was missing is that I was so happy to have my first open water swim race segment out of the way that I felt a bit like I crossed the finish line when I got to t1.
Post race
Warm down:

MY 5 yr old ran with me the last few 100 yards. That was cool. Drank water. ate bbq.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not knowing how hard I could push w/o blowing up.

Event comments:

I really liked this race. I only have 1 race to compare it to but this one started on time and everyone was friendly. I will be there next year. And I will swim faster and bike harder.
