Comments:

Really fun race!
What would you do differently?:

I need to sight better, and next time, I would start at the front with the pack.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not great at sighting, kept bumping into people, slow to start.

Event comments:

Really fun race! Just what I needed to give me confidence for IMNC 70.3. I am a terrible swimmer, so I was happy to be back of middle of the pack! I felt very composed this race, despite that it was the longest I have ever swam in open water, my first open water race in a wetsuit, and my first open water swim in salt water! At the beginning of the race, I kind of hurt myself by waiting 10-20 seconds to start for people to get ahead. I should have just started with the group. The start is a mass start.. so everybody just wades in the water until told otherwise.

I also had some difficulty sighting. This is just something that I will need to work on. We were told that there would be no current, but this was not the case in my opinion! The current felt strong to me! At one point, I was having to swim against the current to get back on track, and it was very stressful. Also, I almost ran into a sign in the water because the current kept pulling me despite that I was just wading haha. If that is no current, I can't imagine what the current will be like for IMNC 70.3! I really look forward to that.

All in all, the race was very well managed. Everything went according to plan, there was no confusion, and all of the participants and volunteers were very nice. The swim was beautiful, fun and stress free. After the swim, everybody hangs out on the dock and watches the other swimmers come in. There were bananas, watermelon, sandwiches, water and beer for all participants! Highly recommend to any beginner swimmers!
