Pre-race routine:

Woke up & drove out to Solana, had breakfast at 6:00 (cliff bar).
Event warmup:

Set up my transition area, put on wetsuit & got used to the water.
Swim
  • 09m 11s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swimming is my strength & that did not show at all at this race. I got pinched off in the beginning & could not get in a solid stroke at any time. Got punched & kicked a few times, but that's all in the fun I guess. Something to work on for sure.
What would you do differently?:

Next time start on the inside, I was hoping that the outside would produce some cleaner water. Go out a little harder off the start.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Happy with T1, there was a long run up a steep hill & then accross the street. Walked up the hill & then sprinted to the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 33m 29s
  • 9 miles
  • 16.13 mile/hr
Comments:

Very happy with the bike, I was bummed after the swim but charged on the bike & passed a bunch of people. Stayed aero for most of the course. The 180 turns were tough as there were usually a lot of people trying to negotiate, but no incidents.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Decent T2 transition, had a little trouble with the shoes but only a few seconds. Racebelt worked great, put that on after leaving the transition area. Nice fast exit off of the bike at the mount line too.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, a little smoother into the shoes would have been nice.
Run
  • 26m 35s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a good run, this is the part of tris that I am really working on. I really want to get faster & put a lot of emphasis on this in my training. I am pretty sure I had a negative split on the loops, I felt really strong at the end but could not get my legs to spin any faster.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training on the run, keep working on getting faster!
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with my wife & friend at the finish line, ate a small muffin & drank some water. Gathered up my stuff & went home to hit the hot tub.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim, need to get out into cleaner water!

Event comments:

I had a good time at this race. This was my first pay triathlon & my second one overall. I do like the SD tri club races a little better because they are more laid back.
