Pre-race routine:

I arrived fairly early, set up everything in the dark and got bodymarked. Ate breakfast at 4 am knowing that my wave would go out at 7:30. Sipped on gatorade and ate 1/2 powerbar at 6:30.
Event warmup:

Got used to the water tempature, swam maybe for 150 yards and got out to take a gel, then waited for my wave to start.
Swim
  • 27m 8s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

I just wanted to keep a nice steady stroke. I could not get behind a decent swimmer, I kept trying but they kept going badly off course so I ended up swimming solo. For the first 500 yards this guy kept swimming into me, I had had enough at the 200 yard mark but could not shake him. At the 500 yard mark I just went into an all out sprint to get some distance, now I could get my line set for the bouy's, however I was out of breath and had to dial it way down to catch my breath and pray he did not catch back up. It was smooth sailing after that, almost perfect sighting! Comming to the end I started to kick a little, that really helps me from getting dizzy when I remove my wetsuit. Exiting the water I think I lost close to a minute climbing over the sharp rocks that covered the shallow part as you came out, I did end up with a small gash.
What would you do differently?:

Sart out faster and then settle into a nice pace.
Transition 1
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

All the good racks were saved by the tri clubs, I had to run from the far racks to the bike exit.
What would you do differently?:

Use pam around legs of my wetsuit, body glide has been drying up on my suit the last few times, I dont know if I should be soaking my suit the day before?
Bike
  • 1h 20m
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.64 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike course was challenging, most of it slightly uphill with plenty of rollers. On the way back could not take advantage of the slightly downhill because of the headwind. I was passed by a handful of people and only passed a few. My endurolites got soaked so I ditched them, I lost a gel so I took my backup gel I had about halfway through the bike, I also had two 20 oz bottles of Infinit during the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Train more consistently, too many things got in the way of my training and last month and I had numerous gaps, I did not prepare myself on the bike or run like I needed too.
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

Just went as fast as I could, speed laces worked great this time.
What would you do differently?:

practice getting in and out of shoes while on bike.
Run
  • 1h 19m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

My run started off good, legs felt heavy but kept a nice steady pace at around 9:30 a mile. The run course was up and down hills for the majority of the race, I was doing ok up until mile three, then It started! I started to really struggle going up the hills until I could no longer run up, then I had to start walking. I was taking in 5 oz water at every mile aid station, so I was not too concerned about hydration. At Mile three I was on pace to finish in around 2:50. Mile four was mostly the same but much less running, and around this time I really felt like puking.Mile five and six were mostly walking because I just kept wanting to puke and my legs were lead, whatever strength I had I just wanted to save for the finish
What would you do differently?:

Real simple, more training! Running has been very difficult for me and I just never know when my knees will cooperate, I cant wait to get consistent on my runs!
Post race
Warm down:

Just wantd to die, following the race I drank two 20 oz waters, two 20 oz gatorades, two 32 oz slurpee's. I dont know how I could have been that dehydrated?

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I wish I could narrow it down better, what limited me were:
lack of bike training
lack of run training
lack of bricks
lack of hills

Event comments:

The race date was changed two months before the race, there was absolutely no notification, I just happened to notice when I confirmed my registration, way not cool. The day I picked up my race packet they informed me that this was no longer a USAT approve race, if you needed three races to have a ranking, that would have been my third, at least that was my intention, they seemed to care less!
