  • Comments: I went into this knowing that I was limited by my blocked artery, so my goal was really to prove to myself that I could do it. Honestly, I expected it to be easier. It wasn't this hard when I was healthier and in better condition. ;) I had trouble carrying my stuff from the car to transition, so I wondered about the soundness of my decision to do this before I even started. I'm really happy I did. This finisher's medal felt more special than any of the others I've earned. I'm not sure what my future is in triathlon, and I'm not in a big hurry to do another, but I will probably do some next summer. I really loved the atmosphere at the Women's only triathlon. It was not a highly competitve atmosphere and there was lots of support and encouragement. Just what I needed for my first time out after being sick.

  • Comments: I was worried the Tri for the Cure would get treated like chopped liver since they needed to get us in and out to make room for the "real" Giant Eagle Multisport Festival triathletes, who needed to start bike check-in at noon. The guide didn't have a map for us, barely addressed our race at all, and the registration people acted like they didn't know what to do with us. But thankfully, this only manifested itself in one way: they didn't have an awards ceremony -- they just had us crowd around a timing trailer to get our own times, and the winners got their awards from a table. I really wanted to see and cheer the women who had won, and could barely get up to the trailer to see my own time, let alone look at how other racers had done. What a bummer. Surely they could have managed an extra half hour for this and still waited for all the women to finish. Still, it was a great event. There was an announcer/DJ who made the whole thing run smoothly, keeping us abreast of everything and

  • Comments: Overall, I had an amazing experience for my first tri. I had set a goal to finish in 1:30. I really thought I would have a difficult time meeting this, but to my surprise it happened and I even surpassed it finishing in 1:25:10! Thank you adrenaline! The event seemed very well organized and all the volunteers and other racers were extremely kind and helpful. I'm happy to have done this race as my first and had a great time. I think I'm ready to tackle another one :)

  • Comments: My race number last year was 1 and I got to be number 1 this year, too. There were pretty-much double the entrants from last year. Last year I came in 40/42 in my AG and 207/217 overall. My overall time was 1:57. This year I came in 28/61 in my AG and 166/396 overall. My overall time was 1:25. So, I was able to cut my entire race time down by 25%!!!!!! This was easily my best race to date and I had a blast trying to beat last year's times. While I still want to podium someday - and soon - I'm just so pleased with my performance. I have been thinking about this day's end since I crossed the finish line last year. It was a day that did not disappoint.

  • Comments: Loved it, loved it, loved it, loved it!!!! Though I knew I'd be a BOPer, I'm so glad I did this. I can now really train for another one in September.
