  • Comments: The course is a great location, but the organization sucked. There were very few knowledgeable people on the course saying turn here, first loop, etc. There were almost no signs at all on the course either and of course the buoys were black and invisible during the swim. The CD was a jerk and D said that he yelled at many racers who just didn't know what they were supposed to do. Lots of volunteers just standing around instead of giving directions. On the flip side winning my AG was excellent and it gave me the confidence to take it to the next level in 2018 where I will tackle a half IM and more Oly courses. Plus, my knee never hurt and my swim was actually kind of fun. SO . . . good race for me overall, plus D was there and I met a couple of really cool AG racers.

  • Comments: My husband was a sweetie and by the time Jeri and I came back from the finish line festival he had totally cleaned up my bike. (He said cleaner than it was before..) I would have been 4th had I entered in my age division (50-54).

  • Comments: With the goody bags being kinda meh, (a Gatorade, sample wheaties, and shot bloks) you'd think they'd have some good post race stuff. No medals or anything though. Just a shirt.

  • Comments: This is my best performance BY FAR! I came out of the water 6th in my age group and then finished the race 8th. That means I only lost two positions in the rest of the race...that is AMAZING! Normally, I just watch everybody fly by my on the bike and run. Woot!

  • Comments: I loved this race. I wish it was held more than once a year. It is 2 miles from my house so most of my training was on the course. Very good race for a newbie. So many friendly people along the way- staff, volunteers, and fellow racers. Everyone in good spirits! I changed from Wave 2 to Wave 6 which worked out great. Being my 1st Tri I did not feel comfortable being ahead of ALL the men... Good foresight on this one! Can't wait until next year!

  • Comments: The Newport Beach Triathlon is a good one. I think the swim course is great. I like the salt water and the calm conditions. The transition area is too far from the swim, but was otherwise fine. The bike course was fun and very scenic. The run course was poorly marked, smelly and ugly. It was the worst run course I've been on. My biggest complaint is that the race organizers, who usually rock (they did an awesome job with Long Beach and Cataline) need to keep spectators and finished athletes off the course and need to keep spectators out of the transition area period. Overall, I liked the race and will do it again.

  • Comments: This was probably the best race I could have done for my first triathlon. It was well organized and not too crowded. The course was scenic and I'm sure if I could have done more ows, the swim would have been pretty easy. Overall it was fun.

  • Comments: Nice course and well organized. It would be a great race if the run course was marked better right out of the transition and if there were some organization and security in the transition area. During my transition from bike to run, I had to manuever crowds in the transition area (including non racers). Additionally, I just walked out with my bike and no one check to see if it was actually mine.

  • Comments: I am glad they brought this race back. I heard some positive and negative things about it and I am glad I did it. The people were all super friendly. They have some logistical issues to sort out with the Newport Dunes folks but all in all it was great. I think I was a little to geeked up afterwards and signed up for the 70.3 race in O-side afterwards.....next time Ill wait to sober up!

  • Comments: It was a change of pace (lol) from the half-ironman. I have been so focused on endurance lately. Everything was about mileage and intensity just took a back seat. I don't think my time improved over a few months ago, but I used to be completely spent at the end of races. At the end of this, I was having a normal conversation 10 seconds later. So, that is an indication I am in better shape or that I am not giving it my all. I hope it isn't the latter. I really try to do my best. It is still a challenge to gauge how much fuel I have in the tank at any one time.
