  • Comments: Race was very organized! Tons of volunteers! Didn't have to worry about any traffic at all, had the reserves at every corner. It was great. Had a blast even though it was raining pretty much the entire time.

  • Comments: course was OK, if they could do something about those bugs that provided extra protein chunks on the both runs and the bike, that would be good, but they were kinda tasty tho!!!

  • Comments: Every year this just gets better. First year I did this race, I swore I'd never do it again. Now I look forward to it as the beginning of every race season. The National Anthem was the best I've ever heard. She was fantastic. Got the race off to a great start. The only thing I missed this year was the multiple massage stations afterwards. They had one guy doing stretching and the line was too long to wait in. Last year they had 4 massage stations.

  • Comments: When I came around to the finnish and saw the clock at 1:37 - I calculated that my wave start put me 4 minutes off the clock - I had been thinking that a realistic time for me was a 1:35 and being sick closer to a 1:40. To see that I was going to break that 1:35 made me really happy! I finnished as the 41st female which is not bad given everything. For my first DU I am thrilled. I know that I could easily take 1:30-2 minutes off between the 2 runs and push the bike harder when I am feeling better. I had a great time and I am happy that I decided to go.

  • Comments: This race was so much better than last year, it doesn't even compare. It was a little shorter (2-mile runs instead of 5ks), but it was really well run and fun to participate in. I hope to do it next year if all works out OK schedule-wise. The only thing I think they should reevaluate is the number of porta-potty's there. They had 4 for 500+ participants and all spectators. Not a good ratio. Otherwise, great race.

  • Comments: At one crossing there were irate motorists..beeping, some yelling obscenities to volunteer and muttering about 'don't bikes have breaks? can't cars pass through? and how he had called the authorities..... traffic was backing up....then a pace car (or some official race car) was beeping and driving on the grass by all the stopped cars..freaked me out so I hit the brakes not knowing if he'd stop. That was the only problem that I saw. Otherwise race was superb out on the bike course with volunteers/support. Day's weather was awesome! Guy who sang the National Anthem did a great job of hitting high notes and I give him lots of credit. Lots of newbies...some clueless about bike 'etiquette' on the road but no real problems..we've all been there. Terrific venue! I'll do this race again next year. And I WILL be faster and stronger on that bike ;)

  • Comments: Very well organized race, Great scenery, esp on the run loop. Great post race food. Great awards! Canvas duffle with the race name and "age group winner" (even 2nd and 3rd said the same thing...) The temp was soooo much better than last week! I had worried that it would be really cold, but the temps rose nicely, to mid 50's by the end of mine. later note: just now got the full results and the girl who beat me was Sue Pierson, and she was 2nd overall. Kinda funny, that I yelled out "and 2nd overall" when she got her award. (Bob Wojcik was taking my pic and I didn't realize that it was Sue announced right after me, meaning she was the 1st place on). Not fair to her that they did not even acknowlege her accomplishment to the crowd. BTW she beat the pants off of me!!

  • Comments: I give them 4 stars because I don't like it when wave seeding is done 1st-come-1st-serve. Thanks to their seeding I no longer fear cat-5 crits. They really should have people submit times (I think they do, actually) and then put the faster people first (they definitely don't). It's just so much safer for everyone when you don't have faster bikers sneaking up on people going twice their speed. Here are some good points. The bike course was flat, fast and fun. The post race food was really good. They did a very good job with that, and the shirt was good looking and true to size. And not cotton.

  • Comments: OK, so they can't count on getting the freight trains to stop for the 2 hours it takes to run the race, but I think they need to plan for this better: have a few volunteers stationed at the tracks to take down numbers and "stoppage time" for the riders that get stuck behind the trains. Test the timing mats befor the race so that they can be counted on. Still don't know why the race official deducted time from other participants overall times for being stuck at the train, but didn't do so for me (she said she was phoning it in right after we spoke). Probably has something to do with the fact that deduction would have placed me in the top 3 for my AG, and I hadn't stuck around for the awards ceremony. Oh well, I was looking at it as just a training day, but would have been nice to walk away with something after the 6 hour drive to and from the race.

  • Comments: early season test- I failed in my estimation - last year I would have been happy with this - this isn't last year - time to push effort - after vacation you are going to be a maniac promise yourself - none the less enjoyed the day dispite the poor results.
