  • Comments: Too hard for my first time, still happy that I did it but was not ready. I was not ready for the heat and the big climbs on the run. Need to train better for this race.

  • Comments: Awesome race, awesome experience. One of the few races that matches the energy and experience of an Ironman. Camping adds a level of difficulty, but my wife had a great time with it. Be prepared for the climbing, and the heat.

  • Comments: I had fun at Wildflower, but it was not my best race. I felt very flat and under-trained, especially on the run. It felt as I have not been running. My legs were not sore or tired. I did not over-bike (I have done that before - not fun). I was also really slow on the first 2.2 mile run. The weather was perfect - for me! :-) I love the heat. I was hot, but not too hot. I was comfortable. I wore my aero helmet (practice for Louisville). It was good to know that I am still fine in the heat. I hate the cold, but do well with heat. Nutrition - perfect! Had it down for the bike and the run. Took in lots of extra water. Everyone seemed to take salt tabs or electrolights. I have never tried these. I know Mike takes them. I never felt like I needed them. Will they do anything for me? I don't seem to sweat lots of salt. I don't cramp. Just curious if this is something I need. HR - I put on the HR monitor in transition before the bike. Didn't have it on for the 2.2

  • Comments: So there you have it...exact same time as 2011 race but in far slower conditions. I'll take it. After the race it was just party time. We had such a great time all weekend and I just love this race. Special thanks to Sean Wattie Watkins who really took care of us and the whole team all weekend. Congrats to Heather Jackson on her second win there. She is so inspiring. Thanks to Tyler Olson of TJO Photography and Steve Driscoll from LiFT Creative Studios for the great photos and Tina Leavitt for her organizational skills. All of my sponsors...Wattie Ink, blueseventy, KSwiss, Reynolds Wheels, Scott Bikes, ISM Saddles, Power Bar, Kask Helmets, FuelBelt, 454 Tattoo and Speedfil. Corporate Sponsors 101 Pipe & Casing, Kurt Orban Partners, and Wins Wheels. My coach, Brian Stover, from Accelerate 3..who, incidentally, crashed his brains out on a mountain bike recently. Get well soon coach and you don't have to worry about me...doing my work as usual. Thanks for everything My body mechanic,

  • Comments: I still had a lot of fun camping with my crew, cheering them on, and watching my sister finish her 4th Wildflower olympic. And after 5 years I finally saw the naked mile. Oh my!! I can't say enough nice things about the people who helped me on the side of the road - the competitors, volunteers, doctor, and ranger. They were just awesome. Having finished this course twice before (and especially having had a decent race last year) really made my DNF easier to deal with. It still sucks, but I guess if you do a lot of races, it's bound to happen at some point. I really brought it upon myself by deciding to race while sick. Lesson learned! Now I'm looking forward, planning (after a short rest) to dive back into training for my ultimate goal - IMCdA in 7 weeks.

  • Comments: Great race. Everyone was super nice, and volunteers were exceptional. Two minor suggestions to the organizers 1. SAG vehicles - honestly, I saw none on the course. Def no one passed by me when I flatted. That was odd. 2. The setup when leaving the race site. Ok, I get the fact that you expect to stay at the festival area and do not want to let the tired peepz walk the beach hill back while the runners are still coming in. However, making us wait 45 mins for the bus to come and take us a mile up the hill is just dumb. I could have walked/rode the hill in 1/3 of the time. Please consider opening the back trails to those of us who do not want to drink $10 wine glasses after the race.

  • Comments: I did this race with Team in Training as "preparation" for the Vineman full course. So far this was one of the toughest physical experiences of my life. I was hoping for a finish between 6-7 hours. I barely missed it, but upon finishing I was just happy I finished. I said to a friend, "I think I'm done with Wildflower. I don't need to do this again." However, a few days later I was already planning on beating my time. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. All of us at Ironteam Los Angeles pretty much stayed for the entire race and cheered in all our teammates, as well as those not on Ironteam. It was an awesome time, and I'm sure all those people appreciated it as well. I even helped the volunteers take racing chips off.

  • Comments: For the first time in nearly 10 years of doing triathlon, I can say that I had a really good race. I've pushed myself to my limit in both a sprint and Oly distance but this being my 3rd HIM, I've never pushed myself for a long course. My first WF 2 years ago was a learning experience so I decided going in this year, while i felt indifferent overall, I wanted to just really test myself. My nutrition was good and I think I was working really hard all day. I wouldn't listen to any voices to stop, and frankly there weren't too many or too often compared to so many other races in the past. Considering the windy conditions I had to deal w on the swim and the bike, having my overall time be just slightly slower than 2 years ago, I have to be pretty satisfied with this. I took 5 minutes off of my run too and I'm happy about that. I know you always have to look at the conditions for the bigger picture and all things considered, I'm happy with my race. Would I do it again? Yes.

  • Comments: I don't think I could have executed much better. All my times were on the right side of my goals and I was able to complete the run injury free. Let me also say what an experience it was to complete this race. It was the longest race for me to date and I absolutely loved the distance. This really is an unbelievable sport and I'm really stoked I'm starting to make some friends in transition and become a part of it. I'm also really excited to get back at it and see what I can do at Hawaii 70.3. If it doesn't go as well, that's ok too...because I know that no matter what, I'm going to have a good time and a few stories. Thanks to everyone who has helped me get this far...too many to list but you know who you are.

  • Comments: I think I'm going to put off my plans of doing an IM next spring. Wildflower and I have unfinished business. Meanwhile, I'm going to rest for a little bit, then get back into half marathon training and maybe find an Oly to do this summer. This fall, it's year #3 for the Silverman half - which is easier than Wildflower, by the way.

  • Comments: Even though this was the worst race experience of my life, it is absolutely one of the best races I have ever experienced. The volunteers are extraordinary, the crowds fantastic, and the support, unbeatable. I cannot wait to go back and try again next year, and this time, succeed with flying colors.

  • Comments: Great well put together race. Getting down to transition is a pain in the butt. The race is well supported with tons of aid stations and really good volunteers.
