  • Comments: A short note about the Richmond Sprint Tri that was contested in Mechanicsville this morning. It was a very straightforward race with no real surprises. The swim was 400 meters in an outdoor heated pool (not that we needed the heat today) with swimmers starting one at a time every 15 seconds - very civil. The bike was a shortish 12-mile out-and-back over relatively flat terrain. The run was a standard 5k through a neighborhood with a half mile jaunt through the woods and across creek beds at the end. The transition was in a grassy field about 300 yards from the swim. Here are my results: Swim - 6:59 (out of pool 6/33 AG, 35/170 OA) Ride - 33:08 (off of bike 3/33 AG, 14/170 OA) Run - 25:44 Total time was 1:09:19, which was good enough for 7/33 in the 40-44 AG and 24/170 OA. All and all, a satisfying end to my fourth-ever race. The best part about the day, though, was meeting fellow club-members Marc Hengartner and Jamie Mata. As it turns out, Jamie was seeded one

  • Comments: Lots of potential as a race venue. The outdoor pool would have been a worse experience if it had been colder. The run course is hard but that is not necessarily a bad thing. The is an end of season race and so you have plenty of time to train for it.

  • Comments: Bike course seemed dangerous due to traffic clogging it up. I have been told that will be changed for next year. Run course end was very difficult for me.

  • Comments: This is usually a great end of season race although it is usually cold at start time. In past years it has been sunny and warmed up after the swim so it has been bearable. I think it might have gotten up to 54 deg during the race.

  • Comments: ACAC is a very nice facility. Nice to not have to use porta johns. Nice to have awards ceremony in indoor tennis court. Still prefer last year's course at Midlo Y... one of the most fun run courses I've done, and I hate to run.

  • Comments: Considering it rained during most of the race, had a good time anyway. Didn't like the start for the swim--had lower seeds in outdoor pool, higher in indoor pool but they had to get out, go over a wall, and get back in and swim another 100 meters. Some from inside came outside to swim-they thought we were done but we were not so we had some slower swimmers in front of us--(we were #228, had #400+ come in and swim with us). Bike and run were not as hilly as I expected. Only one water stop along the run. Will plan to do this race again next year.

  • Comments: Race organization was great and the atmoshere was great too. Weather couldn't have been much better. I heard that the race will probably go back to ACAC next year.

  • Comments: Last year this was my first triathlon ever. The race was moved to a new venue this year (Midlothian YMCA) because ACAC is rebuilding its indoor pool. While I have seen much improvement with a year of training and racing under my belt, I was sad that the race course was different so I was unable to do a side-by-side comparison to my results from last year. The new course was fine, although the last mile uphill on the run was brutal.

  • Comments: This is a great end of season race. Since I had already done it twice before I decided to do it as a relay with 2 of my boys, Jordan (15) and Matthew (12). It was great and the weather was perfect.

  • Comments: I did this race 3 years ago as my second race. I took 16 minutes off the overall time. Even though I had a MTN bike for the last one I still feel great of my time. 10th in the AG is a FANTASTIC finish for me.

  • Comments: I went out to watch the race and talk to some of my RTC buddies. We ended up staying to the end for the awards. 2 of them got awards for the Aqua-Bike category. We got to watch and cheer for the last few people to finish. It was great to be there.

  • Comments: I thought this was an excellent race. Very well run, on time as much as you can be when herding around 500+ people, very well staffed with good presence at every intersection, great course conditions, good post-race food and drink.

  • Comments: Good race, one I will certainly do again. Things were organized and well put-together. The course was good, too. After the race, the awards ceremony took a bit long, though I know part of it was because it was the last race for RTC of the season. Plus, I always feel like RTC does awards ceremonies in a way to toot their own horn, if that makes any sense.

  • Comments: Sorry my rankings are not very meaningful as I have so little experience. Volunteers were plentiful and nice - I made sure to thank everyone on the course that I passed. And spectators! Love spectators that yell and applaud. Anyway, there was pizza and fresh fruit, massages, activities for the kids. I recommend it especially for newbies.

  • Comments: Lots of things were really disorganized this year. Packet pickup was a nightmare because all of the volunteers didn't know what was going on. Swim start was pretty disorganized too - lots of people starting out of order and confusion there. After the race, there wasn't a whole lot going on. Awards started about 45 minutes after they said they would. That was 45 minutes of sitting on bleachers in the sun. Not so much fun. I love the race, but I think there were too many people this year.

  • Comments: All in all, for only having done two races I'm proud of myself. Was really worried how I would do on the hill and it was OK. The cold really slowed the tansition times down for me but I knew that it would be the case. The race was VERY well organized and was happy not to have to travel far for this race. Very happy with all the great volunteers at this race, and was rally good to see people in the neighborhoods cheering us on as well.

  • Comments: Great first experience! I'm so glad I met the challenge! Now to think about what to do to improve! Definitely work on transitions...kills me to think that I could've shortened my time by at least a minute, maybe more!
