  • Comments: I did the Aquabike there last year and the HIM there this year and the numbers were up 30% from last year! I didn't do the run last year so I don't know if there were changes in terms of the aid stations, but i was very happy with the offerings they had. They also have a new bike path for part of the run which I felt was nice - had crushed gravel, nicer on the legs. The volunteers are lovely and I tried to thank every one of them along with the police officers. Post race they have a chicken dinner (I had it last year but couldn't stomach anything this year), they give out plaques to the top 3 in each age group. It's a really nice sort of grass-roots triathlon with Sprint, Oly, Relay, Aquabike, and HIM offerings (Oly was new this year). They've done a good job with trying to keep the prices reasonable and offer good support. It is a good, tough course and humbles me every time. There are not many spectators so it's a good mental strength building race. Cheer yourself on! Well done,

  • Comments: Set a PR for myself. Great Lake Placid tuneup. I thought it was a awesome race. Very laid back and friendly. First time doing this. I think I may do it every year. I had a lot of fun despite stomach issues. Announcer was great. Food was awesome.

  • Comments: This race was a bit up and down. On a positive note I really surprised myself with a huge PR on a tough course. However, considering the price paid, the awards and post race food was lacking. Finisher medals were given, but you got a piece of paper for all awards (except 1st place overall). Despite being a not even customized piece of paper, I still had to wait over 2 hours for the awards to start. The food consisted of only oranges/bananas/beer where in past years they've had a BBQ. The volunteers seemed very disorganized and knew very little about the race. My family has done this race the past few years, and it seems like the organization is on a downhill slide.

  • Comments: i liked the Tinman as far as my first HIM goes. The town is nice and the course is great (except for the second half of the run in my opinion). I was probably too tired afterward to have enjoyed much post race activity anyway and it was getting cold. HOping to consider HIM again. and have the time to do it. we'll see

  • Comments: It's good in a hometown way, but very bare-bones. Nice touch that they don't have time cut-offs - they let two guys finish in over nine hours last year. Run course isn't bad but the swim was choppy for a second year in a row and the bike course isn't technical but it's brutally hilly.

  • Comments: Love the race and will be back. Plenty of vollies and aid stations. Great little town and glad I could play a small part in one of Tupper lake's biggest days. Big thank you to my family, especially my brother rob, for supporting me this weekend. Love you guys. Never give up on your dreams!

  • Comments: I really liked this race and its organisation. The lake is not the nicest in the area, the bike course is not that technical and I wouldn't say Tupper Lake is particularly destinational. But the whole package, including the friendliness of the volunteers and racers make this a really great race to experience. Look forward to racing Tupper again.

  • Comments: Great race in a great town. This was my first half ironman and I had no idea what to expect. I really thought I was looking at a 6:30 finish so I am very happy with my final time. The bike was a lot faster than I expected and the run was easier than I thought. All in all, I enjoyed this experience very much and looking forward to the next one!

  • Comments: Worst thing was the start of the bike. They actually stopped people from starting so they could let the traffic go through. Didn't happen to me, but I would have been pissed if I had to wait out of T1. Also I really didn't like the condition for the roads we road on. With the fast moving traffic we were forced to ride on the rough should at times.

  • Comments: Not very well organized and they actually stopped athletes for traffic to go by. Jean missed first in her age group by 1:20 and they stopped her for about 3 minutes before she was allowed to cross the street and start the bike. I learned a lot and still had fun. I think it was good to not have a perfect race before I do the ironman next year. :)

  • Comments: This is definitely a no frills race - if you're looking for a good t-shirt, big medal, freebies, etc. - look elsewhere. However, the aid stations were great, the volunteers were super, and its a beautiful course in the Adirondack Mountains.

  • Comments: This is a low-frills race. Don't come here looking for the brand name vibe and for every little detail to be nailed. They do get the big ones right. The course is nice, it's well marked, the community supports the race and there are plenty of aid stations with enthusiastic volunteers.

  • Comments: The first thing I wanted from this race was to enjoy it. I wanted to finish with a smile and not slogging. I was not slogging for sure. Although I did hurt on the bike the pain left for the run and I enjoyed it. The swim was as usual. Good. Out 3 places faster 51/608. Bike slower and run the same. T1 was a speedy one for me, T2 slow but a girl has to change ya know. I like this venue. The volunteers are great! Most the crowd is great. I did get one dirty look for a guy who passed me at mile thirty on the bike with a face like how the hell did you get out this far. Fins buddy fins. Love the camp grounds Kam. Thanks for dinner and coffee. Ready to sign up for next year? They have asked for a lot feed back to update the race. Hey they go the finishing metals right.

  • Comments: Real good race. I think what made it even better was my fan club that came up to cheer me on. Overall I am happy with my preformance, I would have liked to be 10-11m faster but what can you do but learn from mistakes, move on and hope to not make them again.

  • Comments: I was disappointed that for the 25th anniversary of the race they ordered too many of the wrong medals. I think just about everyone got the Tinman sprint medal. It's a minor thing but it bothered me. I only do these things for the tshirts and medals.:)

  • Comments: You can kind of tell the oly is an afterthought next to the HIM, which is understandable, to a certain extent. I came away thinking that you'd think after 25 years they'd have some of the bugs worked out. Like, what the distances actually are. Their maps are primitive. The bike turn around point was iffy and no one seemed to be monitoring it. But, dexter is right, the town seems to love it, and I know it's got to be good for them. There were a lot of volunteers that were very happy people. And it's in the ADKs, what a great place!!
