  • Comments: The location is the attraction - really fun to race in downtown area. Lots of good energy, and organization. The course is a little challenging, but appealing for a wide range of competitors. Personally appreciated the woman that was guarding the orange slices for the racers. Thank you!

  • Comments: Overall, I like this race. It will be interesting to see what happens to the bike course as the shoreway is already very rough and will only get worse unless the city re-paves it. Food could have been better (just fruit and bagels), but no big deal. I have done the Greater Cleveland Tri the last 3 years. This was my first time at the Cleveland Tri. I like the course better at the downtown race (riding and running through the city's landmarks as well as the protected swim in the harbor). However, the GCT has the advantage of easier logistics (don't have to pick up race packet day before, parking is right next to transition, etc.). I also like the GCT post race activities better. Overall, it is hard to justify paying 2 times as much for the downtown race versus GCT. It will be a tough decision as to which race to choose next year. I wish these two race directors would just agree to disagree and then not schedule for the same day every year. I would think they would both benefit

  • Comments: Post-race activites were do to the weather. They are normally OUTSTANDING! I was kinda (ok, really) disappointed with the weather. I finished 1st female. My first time ever!!! And there was nothing. No results, no awards, no party... just an empty patio. Kind of a let down. Oh well. This was for UCP anyway. And I raised $1000 for it!!!!

  • Comments: Great race - my 5th time doing some level of competition at the Cleveland Triathlon - I think I bit off more than I could chew, but I've got one Olympic level under my belt and looking forward to the next.

  • Comments: Was in Cleveland for work so signed up because fit into my schedule. Nice area, right at RR hall of fame so that was a highlight but in general the course is pretty boring, pretty much all on a highway, not too much to look at. Crowd support was better than you may expect for such an odd setting (the highway).

  • Comments: "Rate this race" --> my performance = stinks, but proud of my effort. --> Cleveland OLY = LOVE IT! It's great to do a race that means so much to so many people--UCP. I thought this was a great practice for Cedar Point in 1 month. I have never been able to practice in these conditions this summer. Without detailed analysis, but with the naked eye, it looks as though even the female pro was 10 minutes behind last year. I was 8, so I shouldn't complain. The times added to this year from weather conditions over last year were comparative. She added 7 minutes to the swim and 1' per mile pace to the run (but faster on the bike!!! WOW!). I added 6 to the swim (3 minutes faster on the bike!! WOW!) and 1' per mile pace to the run. Note: I am only comparing my time to the pro b/c she is the only one I found who did the race from last year besides me. I felt the racing company wasn't as "together" as they were last year. The boat for the bouys was late, potholes weren't

  • Comments: Based solely on the chaos of transition and the lack of clearing it out for the race, I wouldn't do this race again. Finding your gear is way too important. Thank goodness none of my stuff went missing. All this could easily be solved by assigning the racks. Also, I came back after the race to find my bike ON THE GROUND!!! Someone had removed it from the rack. I don't know why, nothing looked damaged so I know it didn't fall. Really... the volunteers were fantastic and the course was decent for an urban race. It's such a shame that transition is just so uncontrollable. I was shocked that it transition never closed. Just... what a mess.

  • Comments: Volunteers were awesome! We had a drill sergeant/body guard in the transition keeping all the hooligans and non racers out and keeping the lanes open for racers. Loved them! They were very strick on rules--and I love rules! All the racers/relays carrying the kids with CP were very inspirational! It was great to have my own cheering section, too! Did I mention that I finished 3/36 female overall????? I couldn't believe it either!!! Many thanks to Mchubri's Crazy Awesome Training Group!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be back next year!

  • Comments: A great event - but a challenging course! 3 loops on the shoreway was brutal with a difficult incline

  • Comments: Post-race activities at Voinovich Park, within 50 yards of the transition area. Lots of music. Great place to be on a sunny day. The race footprint was compact, which allowed spectators to be fairly close to athletes the whole time. The distance from the swim start, to the bike race viewing area, to the finish line, was about 2 blocks. Parking was limited as most of the public garages were closed on Sunday morning. However, on street parking was legal, and there were a number of empty lots nearby. If I did the race again -- and I might -- I'd stay at the Holiday Inn, the Crowne Plaza, or the Marriot, which were all within 5 blocks of the race area instead of the Hilton Garden Inn, which was about a mile away. Sure, you'd have to get to the Hilton for race check-in and the meetings, but on race morning you'd be right where you need to be. And the area around the Hilton seemed to get sketchy as day turned into night.
