  • Comments: This is my favorite. VTS always does a great job. We had terrible weather but still plenty of volunteers. Also I like the later start time!

  • Comments: Expertly organized event. Upon arrival, there were ambassadors guiding inexperienced athletes through check in and helping with transition setup. The swim was started in waves with 7 or 8 groups sorted by age/abiility, so that there was very little contact with other swimmers. A novice group went last. Many sighting buoys on the water, as well as a surplus of rescue kayaks and jetskis. The bike course went through rolling hills with few turns, finishing with a downhill. The run was scenic, shaded, and pretty flat. At the finish, the announcer recognized athletes well into the middle of the pack finishers. Ambassadors provided a cool washcloth and celebratory high-5. Coupon for a pizza from the on-site mobile Papa John pizza truck, too. Overall great experience. I recommend the Virginia Maryland Triathlon Series highly.

  • Comments: Tremendous event; wish it was closer since we have to spend the night. But the locale, course, organization, post-race, etc. are all top notch. My only issue was the water temp measurement, which just didn't make sense given temps noted for the previous days. Oly race on Saturday was wetsuit eligible but somehow one day later, with no change in air temps, our race wasn't. Before the start, guy next to me in the water had done the Oly race the previous day and he said the water had actually been warmer on Saturday.

  • Comments: The course was somewhat hilly, especially on the bike course. Once you passed that portion though, the rest was nice and downhill. It was a great, beautiful sunny day for September. For my first triathlon, there was nothing more I could have asked for. The awards were amazing and location was very pretty. Thanks to all the volunteers, SetUpEvents for the VERY organized event, and my family and friends for coming to support me! :)

  • Comments: This was my first race since spraining my ankle in January, so I decided to start with an easy sprint. The race felt good, and I was happy to see that I can still perform at a high level after the injury.

  • Comments: over all compatitors 273 is mens only. i heard there was an accident in the water; a novice male triathlete may have passed away, as he was carried out of the water, limp and blue, and CPR was performed for a few minutes before ambulance came. the ambulance prevented me from entering the transition area after my bike, but it was only for 30 seconds or so.

  • Comments: The condition of the Marina is not SetUp events fault. The exit from the water with a small staircase was none too fun. Those are nitpicky complaints about what was otherwise another great SetUp Events race.

  • Comments: This was a very good race for a first triathlon. A shorter bike course, warm water and I was able to use a wet-suit. I was very pleased.

  • Comments: Last year this was my first ever tri so I couldn't pass it up this year even though I'm focusing on going longer this year (have B2B full in ONE month)...I'm really glad I did this race though because the weather seems to work out great and the venue is beautiful....and the stew---yeah I love it!!! And well I really can't complain about my first AG hardware in a tri---2nd in AG---I'll take it!!

  • Comments: The race was fantastic. Setup runs a smooth race and I have enjoyed starting my Tri "career" with them! I look forward to taking part in their events next year. I might even jump to my age group next year!! :)

  • Comments: I hope they get to have this race next year, the venue is in foreclosure. If they do, I will be there! Might have to pick up the Rumpus in Bumpus too since it is the same course.

  • Comments: In my experience, Set Up Events always puts on a well-run race and this was no exception. The race started right on time, the courses were well-marked, and the Brunswick stew was an excellent addition to the post-race food!

  • Comments: This was my first tri (except when I volunteered at the Nation's Tri) and it was really nice to have only 700 athletes, and be in the beautiful area near Lake Anna. This is definitely a race that I would do again!

  • Comments: The race was very well organized but no penalties were given for drafting when I heard of people being scolded by the draft marshalls and bragging about it. What's the deal, if you cheat you should pay the price, especially when you get caught. Very good experience for my first tri.

  • Comments: As usual, Setupevents ran a very well organized, smooth race consistent with their others; however, the Brunswick stew afterward was way above average and the best Setupevents post-race food ever! I would do this race again just for the stew! This is also a beautiful venue and a great place for your first race, and served well as a good measure of progress at the end of the season for me.

  • Comments: Setup does a great job, given this is not an easy venue to have a race. I can live with the trail run -- it's better than last year when they had crowded both the bike and run on the same road. Sand bar was a bummer, but it was still a beautiful day.
