  • Comments: They really need more porta potties on the run... Needless to say Holly just barely squeezed by with a minute to go. If I hadn't waited for the bathroom I'm sure I would have won, but it's all good. No use complaining since a lot of the factors that went against me were my own fault, and honestly I still would have done the stair climb and I still would have donated blood. This was a terrible race for me, but a good learning experience for next season.

  • Comments: I love this little town. The people make the race and the people here were great. Course is challenging but not so hard that a beginner can't do it. I had a great time.

  • Comments: I think this race is one of the best kept secrets in Southern California. it is a small venue in a very pretty place with a nice open course and a fairly relaxed atmosphere. (Great Destination Race) But be warned, this race is very competitive. The podium in my AG were all Sub 2:10. At my Oly earlier this year, my time was 10 seconds slower but I took 2nd place :)

  • Comments: I thought it was a great race, almost too on time :). The volunteers were great, there were lots of aid stations and people telling you exactly where to go, and what to look out for. The bike course is challenging but not impossible.

  • Comments: This is a good race. It's tough, but there is a really good vibe around it, the people are friendly and the event went pretty well (there was some confusion, it seemed, with some of the run course-- people not knowing where to go). Overall, this is a race I would definitely do again!

  • Comments: Excellent first Olympic distanct triathlon. The swim was perfect. No swell, beautiful beach. Well organized. I will be back next year, definitely! James(8) and Madison (11) met me at the finish line. James at the finish "Did you like it, Daddy?" Through tears of emotion from having finished, "Yes, James. I liked it."

  • Comments: The Carpinteria triathlon was a beautiful course and run fairly well. It was the perfect venue for my first Olympic triathlon. I absolutely recommend it to all new and experienced triathletes.

  • Comments: Great bike course. A little more low key feel than most events, with a very competitive field of athletes.

  • Comments: This could be a great race with some more sponsors and a little bit better directional aids on the course. Do a Rectangle course for the swim start down the beach and finish at another point. Plenty of room. I nearly got nailed on the ride by a car, because on the main ride back in the foothills, cars are getting mad a race is going on, but they need to close the road or patrol better.

  • Comments: I was scared to death of doing anything more than a sprint when I signed up for this race. I was able to overcome my fears and I'm looking forward to doing more Olys next season. I think this was probably the most enjoyable race I did all season. In addition to the physical training for this race, I really concentrated on my mental preparation. This was the most relaxed (least nervous) I've ever been in any race. I was able to focus on every aspect of the actual race. Never once felt any anxiety/stress during the race. I felt "in control" of my race. I think this contributed to the enjoyment factor. Carpinteria is a small town and you can't get lost. Motel 6 less than a mile from the race site. Lots of parking around the race site. Lots of good restaurants. Less than 2 hours from home. Great location.
