photo Member Question: Bonking after a Race
The race didn't really wear me out but it felt like my body was bonking. Do I really need Gatorade or some other sports drink after a race?

I drink water. I do not like Gatorade at all and in general, I don't do HFCS or Crystalline Fructose (I don't let items with those ingredients in my home).

After my race last Sunday I was woozy. I ate and drank water and even had a little Sprite but it took me most of the day before I didn't feel 'off'. The race didn't really wear me out but it felt like my body was bonking. Do I really need Gatorade or some other sports drink after a race? What about heavy training days like this Saturday when I plan to bike 25 miles? Is there anything on the market that doesn't have that fructose corn syrup in it???

    Answer

Whether you are pushing your body for an age group win, trying to reach your first ever triathlon finish line or hoping to set a personal best, it is normal to feel tired after a race. [.....]
