OK, I'm not a child or a little old lady, but this in fact happened to me once.  Some guy was staring at his fancy running watch (it was pre-Garmin days) and somehow missed the fact that we were turning, kept going straight, and plowed into me from the side.  It's enough to make me wanna join Scout's Luddite movment.

I do like my Garmin, especially for training, but people, look up!

Hey, all I'm saying (in my usual sarcastic way) is that a GPS unit is not necessary to have a successful race.  In fact, I think many people sell themselves short by relying on it too much.

Fair statement and I agree, but for now I am still going to use it as a crutch   I aspire to know my body, pace, etc. better so that I can adjust accordingly without it.
