The can of Lychee in my liquor cabinet.  An Asian friend brought it from California for me, claiming the juice makes a great Lychee Martini.  I haven't found out yet if she's right.

Along the same lines... Lemoncello

I have a couple friends that went to Italy that love the stuff. I found a local shop that sells it. Just haven't picked it up to give it a try.

oooh its lovely, very strong though. I don't usually drink any liqueur type drinks but tried this in Italy as I felt like my tummy was unsettled after a heavy meal, the barman insisted I try it and it really helped.

paddle2paddle - 2008-02-08 9:25 AM There are staples of "vegetarian/vegan" fare that I've not gotten around to trying. One of those things I want to try is quinoa. I hear it is very healthy. I think the reason I haven't tried it is more just taking the time to figure out how to prepare it well.

I just bought the "Veganomicon," a cookbook that makes me want to try half of the recipes!  Woo-hoo!  There's a quinoa recipe in there; if I try it I'll post results.

Meanwhile, I'm going to start with the soups -- stuff familiar to me -- and maybe work my way up to the stuff with strange ingredients.  Not ALL of the stuff with strange ingredients, mind you; I don't see myself actually going totally vegan.  But the chickpea cutlets and definitely intriguing, and they call for Wheat Gluten.  So... my #1 answer now is chickpea cutlets!

Awesome cookbook!  The woman who wrote that has a few other good cookbooks as well.

Never had deep fried turkey. I bet it's great. Never had really authentic Wagyu beef, from Kobe. I'd like to try fugu, although I might be too chicken. I'd feel really stupid if I left my wife a widow and my son fatherless because I had to try some exotic sushi.

You can make a decent version of limoncello by steeping lemon peels (2-3 large lemons) in grain alcohol for a couple of weeks. Then strain out the peels and (THIS PART IS IMPORTANT) dilute it with distilled water to about 50% strength before you drink it. Make sure you remove the white pith from the lemon peels.

Or just go to the liquor store. Whichever.

My wife and I are very keen on Quinoa (HA!).  It isn't all that hard to prepare.  Finding an interesting recipe... that is a bit more challenging.

-Brian

x2 Quinoa is one of my new favorites.  After boiling it I put put it in a skillet with green onions, broccoli, and herbed tofu and top it off with chili powder and a bit of cumin.

I have always liked sushi and sashimi, but have been reluctant to try the more unusual choices.  I would like to work up the courage to try these.

Better than advertised... Takes minutes to cook the bird.

Never had really authentic Wagyu beef, from Kobe.

They are both great. We have a steakhouse in Columbus that serves both Wagyu from Washington and from Kobe Japan. I would go with the stuff from Washington because it is cheaper, and there is no disernable difference between the two. Got to love... beer fed, massaged beef. I love cow.

I'd like to try fugu, although I might be too chicken. I'd feel really stupid if I left my wife a widow and my son fatherless because I had to try some exotic sushi.

I would love to try it. But like you I don't know if I am brave enough to eat it sometime.

I have seen it using vodka... The store bought one comes from Italy and is maybe $20, with no real time investment to give it a try... call me lazy.
