Subject: Shaping an aero bottle straw?

Is there a way to shape an aero bottle straw, i.e. mold it to curve some so it isn't just straight up? If I could curve mine just slightly, it'd be perfect, but I figured I'd ask first before I destroy it by experimenting!

Never thought about this but when I played football we'd put our mouth pieces in boiling water then shape them (by biting them) and they would mold to your teeth.  This would probably work for the straw and be pretty low-risk for ruining it.

The only issue I've ever seen about heating some plastics is that it can release some toxin that you probably don't want to consume.  That varies by the type of plastic.  I'm not sure if it means the plastic will continue to release toxins, or if it's a one-time shot and you could wash it off.  Okay, a with a little help from Google, I've included a link to an article -- I knew I'd read about this somewhere.  I'm sure some chemical engineer on BT here will chime in and provide salient information.   The amount released, if any, would probably be miniscule in proportion to other exposures you get, so don't let this scare you off...

That's bad news cause I bent my aero drink straw with a lighter......like a year ago. I guess I'm screwed.

Dishwasher. I put mine in there, bent it more than I thought I would want and then it ended up it a good enough position. Top shelf, you can bend over two rod thingees and brace with whatever else you are putting in there.

in college we'd bend our hockey sticks with a blow torch or heat gun....i think thats probably "just a tad" too hot for the straw, but if you heat it with a hair dryer or the lighter trick, i think you'd be good...heat it and then put it on the counter and brace it with a few items and voila

I am a Chemical Engineer. Rest assured you have nothing to worry about in regards to the release of toxins from the straw. The very small amounts that could possibly be released at elevated temperatures, will not continue to be released at ambient temps.

By the wa, using a dishwasher to shape the straw is a good idea. I shaped mine by accident last summer. I took the aerobottle off my bike with the straw still in it and tossed it in a storage bin in my SUV. I forgot about for a few weeks. When I took it out the straw had a curve to it that works great.

I cut my way down, then went to a hardware store and got some of their clear tubing..a few feet for like 30 cents a foot. I cut off the desired piece and slide it onto my straw and poof a molded straw.

Someone put my aero bottle with the straw in in a small cupboard that was too low, so the straw was bent. After 2 weeks there the bend was permanent!

Awesome, I knew it could be done, and now I have plenty of ideas to give it a shot! Thanks all!

I gave my Aero bottle away and went with a NeverReach system and love it!! Easy to refill on the fly in long races, holds 64oz of fluid and there's no scrungee to be ejected!
