rstocks3 - 2008-06-05 7:47 AM I'm going to be at the race with my son Matt who is 9. He's registered for the kids tri, in the 95 degree heat no less. Is anyone else bringing their kids? He'll be my cheering squad during the Oly and would love to have someone to hang out with.

I'm bringing Dudley. He's not a kid, but frequently behaves like one.

Great! I think he can keep up with Matt!

I'm also bringing Lily, in her new snazzy Ironman collar. She loves to run and play in the water, so that could also help keep Matt busy.

Anyone else bringing old sneaks and cell phones? Seemed like a good idea, so I've collected them from people at work.

Ok folks, if this race is going to be your first OWS of the year, you have a job today:

Get that wetsuit wet! Put it in the tub or shower, hose it down, whatever. It's likely been in your house all winter and is very, very dry which means it's also shrunk.

Give it a good soaking, let it expand so that on Sunday morning you won't be freaking out trying to get it on saying "I don't remember it being THIS hard to put on!"

Of course, Sunday shouldn't be your first OWS of the year. This weekend is giving us some great weather to get in the water. I'll be at Kershaw Park in Canandaigua for the Sawbellies open water swim tonight. Taking the kids early, should get there about 3:30.

I swam in Canandaigua Lake this morning and found the temperature to be fine.  I was wearing a wetsuit, neoprene cap and booties.  So I was bundled up.  But even my hands did not get cold.  I think we're going to be fine on Sunday.  And this is coming from someone who usually shivers pretty badly in cooler water.

I swam here in PA near Scranton and the water was 71 and I was sweating like a yetti with a wetsuit on. almost looking forward to water in the 60s.
