I finally bought a Profile Design Aero bottle.  The problem is the straw seems SO short.  It only sticks out about 4 inches.  I have to lean down more than I'm comfortable with since my aero bars mount under the base bar and I have a decent sized drop.

Can you buy longer straws?   OR, I'm thinking I could get some plastic tubing from Home Depot or something and have a custom length....

When I got mine, it came with two straws, a long skinny one and a shorter thicker one. I stuck the shorter thicker one on the end of the skinny one and it reaches just high enough!

It definitely sounds like you're missing the extension piece that should come with it.

Let me check the packaging.  Maybe it's in there.  Be right back!!!!

Be glad you figured that out now.  I bought mine the afternoon before my first HIM and violated the 1st rule of triathlon--no test ride before the race.  I had to stick my head down in between the aerobars to drink out of it during the race....Not only uncomfortable but kind of humiliating

Ha!  That's how a found out.  During my ride last night it looked like I was trying to kiss my bike computer - I had to get so low.....  I was telling myself, "no WAY I want to do this at 25 mph".

ANYWAY, I did a search on BT for the yellow pouf thingy that comes with it.  Sounds like a lot of mixed feelings with regards to it.  In general, I should unwind it and form it into a wider "donut" and sqeeze it in the opening (or buy a loofa).  Yes?

To keep the water in the bottle when you hit a bump.

to alert you that a bump is up ahead,, when you see all the yellow poofie's on the ground.. I just turn mine sideways in the bottle underneath the lip.

Why wouldn't a normal lid work then?

Because it's too hard to take the lid off to refill while you're in the middle of a race. Not sure why you're "unsuccessful pouring water in through" the net thingie.

I prefer the poofie:

This thread shows some great pictures of the new P-D Aquacell, and the new improved lid they have there. I think it's stated there that the standard bottle will soon be going to this lid.

Someone makes a black, foam like, tear drop shaped piece that sts in the neck. I have heard it works much better then the yellow thing.

Of note, ensure he softer straw is at the top. This will keep you from adding a hole to the roof of your mouth with the stiffer straw if you hit a bump while drinking!!

Had the same problem with my Profile Aero bottle, and I only got one straw. I ended up stealing the bendy straw from my son's giant drink that came with a kiddie meal. Works great and I can put it at the right angle.

Just thought I'd come back to this... I went on a gear check ride with the Twin Cities bike club tonight, and sure enough, that yellow thing popped out on every bump I hit!
At one point I had to stop to grab it and ended up falling over in front of a large group of pedestrians... Ahhhh the humbling sport of cycling

First time with the bottle last weekend... poofie thing flew out on first big bump, didn't even look back. The bottle worked just fine without it. Just didn't always top it off.

Put only water in your PD.  The first time you load it up with Gatorade and it splashes all over your handlebars, legs, shoes, etc., you will know why.  The stickiness has to be experienced to be believed.  During an Ironman, I used the PD for water and kept my Gatorade in my behind-the-seat cages.

I agree water only.

I have NEVER had my "poofy thing" fall out.

Water goes right through it.  How is that hard to fill?

As for the poofie thing, I too put mine sideways, and it is easy to fill through and not once fell out.... even when my PD bottle came out of the aerobars.. the poofie remained in tact.

I'm another one that puts my yellow poofie thing in sideways with no falling out.

It cracks me up when I see bikes with the poofies half-way out of the aero-bottle.

And I'm still scratching my head about "I can't get water to go thru it".  Either it's REALLY dirty or we're talking about different things.

Ok, I just realized why I was having trouble pouring water through the poofie thing. It didn't occur to me at first that the hole down through the center is where the water should go through because mine came incredibly tight, but I just pulled the thing apart a bit to widen the hole, and water goes through no problem now.
