Subject: Wetsuit for CapTex 1st Timers?
The CapTexTri will be my first triathlon. The swim for the first timers is only like 400 meters. Should I bother with renting a wetsuit? The advice given from people I know around here is mixed. Some say "yes" the water is cold and the buoyancy helps. Others say it's nice to have but not really necessary.

What do you think? Any other 1st timers out here and what are you doing?

Thanks,
Dan

I am entered in the "First Tri" as well and I plan on wearing my tri shorts and top.... No wetsuit.  It might be a little chilly at first but shouldn't be too bad.

CapTex 1st Tri was my very first triathlon back in 2005.  The water was cold, and I was in big 'ole baggy swim trunks with no wetsuit.  Was I cold?  Yep.  Did it matter?  Not really.  I still had a blast!

Yeah, I think I'm going to skip renting the wetsuit. Maybe the cold water will give me an incentive to hurry up and finish the swim!

Thanks for the advice.

If it rains before the race, I would wear a wetsuit for protection as well.  Lot's of stuff floating in Town Lake after a rain.
