See you next Thursday.

BE SURE TO CHECK THIS THREAD EACH WEEK FOR UPDATES.

Hey Larry / Michelle!

I am looking forward to splashing in your pond on Thursday!  (RSVP-ed already.)  Looks like weather is going to hold (knocking wood!).  Any chance to check the thermo lately?  Just curious.

Will be test driving my new (and first) wetsuit!

Weather looks good so we're calling it early this week...we're ON for tonight.

The water should be in the 64-65 range.

Just a note...there is NO swim May 29th!!!! (that's NEXT week)

As long as the weather holds out we'll be there this week (May 22nd). I'll post a final decision by 4pm on Thursday.

THE OPEN WATER SWIM IS ON FOR 6/12 TONIGHT-
IMPORTANT PARKING INSTRUCTIONS - WE GET A LARGE ATTENDANCE
THE LOT IS VERY SMALL!

If you arrive after 6:10 you will need to park either on Buttonwood Ave or Jefferson Ave (PAST BUTTONWOOD AVE) or YOU WILL BE TICKETED. The police are very deligent in ticketing our attendees.

FROM Maple Ave - MAKE A LEFT AND PROCEED ABOUT 200 YARDS TO BUTTONWOOD AVE.
IF YOU ARE COMING DOWN JEFFERSON TO THE LOT - PLEASE DO NOT UTURN IN THE LOT - MAKE A RIGHT AND GO COMPLETELY AROUND THE BLOCK AGAIN TO JEFFERSON.

DO NOT PARK ON JEFFERSON ROAD BETWEEN MAPLE AND BUTTONWOOD!

Please follow these and all OWS directions; as the town is kind enough to allow us to host these sessions and if it becomes an inconvenience to residents, the lake etc they will no longer allow it.

Thanks and please pass this along to anyone you know who is coming to any session!

Oh, I'm there.

I'm hoping for chilly so I can wear my wet suit and not overheat. Gotta get used to that puppy.

couldnt make it tonight but am also interested in temp - is it in 70s?  Would like to swim w/o wetsuit to practice for July when we probably wont be able to wear the suits.

It was quite warm in spots. Many people went without wet suit. The air was hot and it was very sunny. There were warm spots in sunny and shallow areas, but also a few cold zones on the shady side and where it got a bit deeper. I did laps with and without the wet suit. The first few minutes with suit and cap I felt very warm but I got used to it. The last lap without the wet suit was refreshing.

I was quite warm. I think I might have overheated if I had worn my suit, but I overheat easily. My trail run afterward was quite nice. The worst was the lake grime. I was quite covered and there was usually a line at the showers. Perhaps we could find a way to get the second shower to stay on while showering? Maybe a temporary bungee cord? Made it tough to rinse off that grime with one hand. Me and another guy held the shower on for each other, but it slows down a lot if people are a little shy.

I plan on attending my first OWS tonight if it is still on. I am just curious as to what the swim entails. Is it a series of loops or a single course? Do most people just swim for time or is there a known distance? Thanks ahead of time.

It is a one loop course and the word on the street is, it is a 1/5 of a mile loop (feels longer to me but I am not a good swimmer).  People just swim one lap or as many as they want.

3 times around the lake is the distance of the sprint. It was a very worthwhile experience the first time I went and I am going again tonight since my race is in 17 days! I was surprised at how disorienting open water was - I tended to consistently swim to the left - very odd! The open water swim is invaluable to first timers.

It is awesome that Michelle and Larry have done this for us! Thank you both so much.

Sorry....I was at the doctor.

So far so good...we're on.

The forecast calls for a storm in the next hour or so but clearing after so even if we get hit as long as it clears up we'll go.
