Subject: Alternating work outs - is that enough rest?
The body needs rest in order to recover, that much most of know. would the body be still be pushed too far is I were to alternate excercises such as this?:

Monday - bike
Tuesday - Swim
Wednesday - run
Thursday - Weights
Friday - bike

Legs get concentrated works out on alternate days with runs and bikes but still have a different (lighter), form of work out in between with swiming. Would a schedule like this be pushing it in ways I'm not aware of?

I do try to listen to my body and rest when I feel I've been pushing it too much, sometimes two or more in a row if needed but do stretching instead of doing the couch thing.

Thanks for your opinions
Eddie

I think you'll be fine as long as you take recovery days when you feel you need them. I like recovery days when I dont excercise. Its a mental break for me.

This week (I have an 8 day cycle) I am doing the following:

Mon: Bike, Run, Weights
Tues: Swim
Wed: Bike, Run
Thurs: Day Off
Fri: Bike, Swim, Weights
Sat: Run
Sun: Bike, Swim
Mon: Day-off

And then it repeats....

Good Luck,
Randy

You should be fine.

As long as you don't over do it on any of those 5 days I think you have nothing to worry about. You seem to have SAT and SUN as rest days. If that's the case you should be fine.

I'm following the Olympic 3X plan which has me training 6 days straight. I only have one rest day (that's today). I think the important thing is to have the short workouts the day after the long ones.

Looks good.

Depending on your current levels of fitness/experience, you may want to keep in mind the concept of alternating heavy workouts with recovery workouts... e.g. If you did a 20 mile run one day, you might want to do a lighter bike workout the next day... then again if you recover quickly, you may be one of the people who can jump on the bike and be unaffected...

What are your goals?

With one run and one swim a week, are you training for a triathlon? If so you need to swim and run more.

Why not follow one of the training plans here on BT that fits into your life and has your goal as a focus.
