Subject: Inside Triathlon Magazine vs. Triathlete Magazine
I am looking at getting a subscription to either Inside Triathlon Magazine or Triathlete Magazine, I just bought both of the magazines the other days and have been going throught them. I still can't decide which one I like better, I was hoping for some input from each person who has a subscription to either of these magazines so that it can help me make a decision.

Thanks

Frankly, I don't like either of those publications since they seem to be very heavy on the advertising and light on the content.  Rather, I prefer to purchase Bicycling and Runners World mags when I can find them.

After reading both mags for a few issues I decided to subscribe to IT. I found it to be more towards the age grouper, although there is plenty of Pro coverage, which is cool, but the training tips I found to be very useful. It seemed to me that Triathlete was really dedicated to covering the Pros more so, which again is cool, but I'm more looking for tips on training, nutrition, etc. that are geared towards me, the age grouper.

Bicycling and Runner's World are both excellent, I read both of these as well, don't subscribe to 'em, but make sure to flip through them at the stand and if there are some good articles I feel I can use, then I'll purchase.

I had gotten a subscription to IT last fall because I though it had more info for the AG types. My brother-in-law got me a subscription to Triathlete magazine for Christmas. I have to say that I was impressed that TM seems to be getting the point that there is more interest in information for AG than Pro coverage and they seem to be going that way too. Occasionally, I'll pick up Runner's World, Bicycling and/or Trailrunner Magazine (The photography is cool) too... I guess I didn't help much, sorry

I get them both.... I like them both... but if I had to give one up, I'd choose to let go of Triathlete and keep IT. I just like it better. I like the format, the content, the articles, everything... just a little bit better.

I have read them both but I received Triathlete Magazine for Christmas last year and then again this year.  I like it.  It does have a lot of ads but anymore I think they all do.  As for IT it is also a fine magazine but I get the one that was gotten for me and it does me fine.  I like the stories on the Pro's and they always have training programs for the begginner/intermediate triathlete every year.  I get a lot of my swim workouts from this magazine.  I also learn alot from the specific 'corners' they have where people write in with questions on swimming, biking and running all of which I learn something from.

You always pop up right where I expect you!!!

Didn't that whole controversy get started because there was a full out lipstick article in Runner's World???

BTW, ladies, (and gents, I suppose.....) I'll stand by my recommendation ANY DAY.... Covergirl "Smoothwear" lasts all day... through workouts, races, whatever... if you're so inclined. Same with Max Factor's "Lipfinity," and Covergirl "Outlast." I think they are all Proctor and Gamble products, so it's probably the same stuff under different labels.  I'm wearing it right now!!!

What controversy?

I remember that I maintained that female athletes were interested in more germane topics such as training programs, proper pacing, nutrition, stretching, etc. than in what cosmetics were best to wear in a marathon.

I also remember I was decidedly in the minority.

That one little lipstick article morphed into a full fledged heated debate regarding the pros and cons of applying lipstick/lip gloss/lip color/chapstick while in the throes of T1 or T2.... I emerged as the champion of lipcolor, despite the fact I do not partake while competing, or training...

I endorse a woman's right to choose. To apply or not to apply. That is the question.

The original question was whether or not the article belonged in a RUNNING magazine, but, yes, you are the queen of lipcolor.

I have my way of distorting the original content of the issue, and ultimately making it all about cosmetics. Can't help it, I'm a girl.

Oh, and BTW, I think those kinds of articles DO belong in Running magazines. I'm sure there are other girly girls out there wondering how to keep their lipstick from smudging while training. (!) A germane (Jermaine? as in Jackson?) topic for the 21st century modern tri-chic.

I guess the whole feminist movement is dead, that women no longer want to be respected for who they are and what they accomplish, but rather how they appear. More specifically, how attractive they appear to men.

Well, one would think that an article on keeping one's make-up intact whilst sweating would be in Glamour or Cosmo rather than a running mag. But I have to say, Bear, that the feminist movement is not dead, it's just now about women being able to be whatever they want to be rather than allowing women to be more like men..... :-)

Both IT and TM have recently stated that they are shifting their focus to the age-grouper.  It seems that they are both in transition (pardon the pun), and both headed in the same general direction.  IT recently added the editor from AmericanTRI, an age-group focused tri magazine that folded within a year of starting.

Runners World has improved recently as well.

This month's issue of Inside Triathlete had a mere 66 pages of nothing!!!!! It is basically a bunch of advertisements with very little to actually read. It is this and the paper feels cheap! I got it half price, it's not even worth that! Go with Triathlete, it's a great mag!

Research clearly shows that women primp not to impress the men, but to impress other women!! Guys don't appreciate the subtle details of a good outfit/great make up job. Women do! And they notice!

Regardless, the whole concept of painting one's lips is ridiculous, and certainly has nothing to do with running or athletics.

I appreciate hot chicks! That being said, if they do all that in the transition, that's cool. It just means I just might be able to beat a couple more chicks. The only problem is, they run by me so fast that I never get to see them

You, sir, are a slow-running neanderthal with all this talk of "hot chicks." On behalf of women everywhere, I am thoroughly offended and demand an apology.

Sunfire, you're new here, so maybe I can offer this word of advice...  As long as there are people like welshy, garyellendana, bear, whizzer, (me), larasd, et al, there are gonna be unnecessary tangents.  Ain't it fun?!

And I would like to apologize on behalf of bear for using big words that nobody understands.

Excuse me?  That sounds like a bunch of feminatzi research.  The fact that anyone would believe that women don't dress to impress men is only slightly more rediculous than the statement that a man doesn't notice a well dressed woman.
