Subject: De Soto Wetsuit

With the help of my BT friends I finally agree that my wetsuit is to big. It is my third wetsuit (a small down side of losing weight) and I just got it last year...but it slows me down. Today I swam without it and not straight at all and was same time across the pond with my wetsuit last week.

I've been looking around and the issue is always with my weight I need a larger women's size which means the arms/legs are to long..sure I can cut them. I have a more stocky build than most triathletes.

I've had Promotion suits but with the zippers in the legs can't cut them. They offer short but it is to short in the body then...my first one was a short.

Tri Sports suggested I look at De Soto as they are two peice and more custom fit. Do any of you have them and love them? Hate them? I'd like to hear some feed back quickly. I'm going up to Lake Placid next Friday and want to have a new wetsuit by then.

I have the less expensive de Soto one (forget if that's the black pearl or first wave). I have no complaints. By having separate tops and bottoms you can get a much better fit. ALso, you can wear just the bottoms if the water temp is in that in-between temp range (as my wife did a couple weeks ago).

good luck!

I have the T1 and like it a lot. Their customer support (usually Emilio) was very helpful with picking out the right sizes for the top and bottom for me. I don't find it any easier or harder to get in or out of then a one piece.

I have one and absolutely love the design, fit, etc.  Emilio Desoto personally helped me pick the size base don my measurements, weight, etc, he shipped two different size suits to me so I could try them both, he let me send one back and pick the one that worked best, etc.  He spent a lot of time and effort with me on the phone.  Probably the best customer service I have ever experienced.

Oh yeah, that's one of the best things he does.  When picking out my wife's, Emilio said order both, return what doesn't fit.  He even includes a return form with every shipment.

Dude stands behind his gear

Excellent product. You won't be sorry. Great gear. The ability to go either short sleeved or long sleeved is great.

Definately love mine. I got the First Wave bibjohn and the Black Pearl pullover. The top is one size larger than the bottom. Definately easy to get in and out of, and as others have said their customer service is top notch.

I like their stuff so much I recently purchased their Liftfoil Trisuit. It is by far the most comfortable I have raced in both the bike and the run, and felt great in the swim.

You can't go wrong with any of their products.

Kathy:

I just bought one. Due to my size, the only one I could buy was the first wave. OK, $500 for the bib john and top. But, it's a perfect fit. My first wetsuit will last me into retirement if I take care of it. When I ordered (direct from DeSoto), the woman who helped me gave me her extension and asked me to call her direct with any questions or problems.

My first race with it isn't a good judge. We had no swim to speak of but a muck run through 9" of water and mud. But the suit is nice!

It's all I know, but I really like it.

Thanks guys...I bought some of their tri clothes for the first time this year and love them.

I called them and asked for some advice on size and they are going to get back to me after i sent them a picture of me and my measurements.  I'm traveling tomorrow so that makes it more interesting.

If I get it from Tri Sports I get 15% off and free shipping..wonder if buying it directly from DeSoto is better or if they'd match the discount. I like that I can try it to make sure it fits well in water.

Another vote for the De Soto. I have the First Wave and love it. I'm long-waisted and just couldn't find a conventional one-piece suit that fit right. The 2-piece is perfect and I'm actually faster getting out of it than I was the one-piece.

Also agree 100% on the top notch customer service. I know have a full complement of De Soto race-day gear and love it all.

I ordered the Black Pearl and it should be here in time to test it out up at Lake Placid next weekend.
