Subject: NJ State Sprint 1st timers?

Any other first timers totally freaking out right about now?  I know that I am ready and am definitely looking forward to Sunday, but I am having weird nightmares (like missing the swim start or making the swim and for some reason totally missing the bike leg) and I am having a hard time eating and feel sick to my stomach.

I think I am going to go for a short bike ride just to calm the nerves...

Okay,  feeling much  better now that I went out for a ride and also exchanged emails with someone I know who is also competing but has done several triathlons.  Good luck to everyone who will be out there on Sunday!

Relax Randi, and just think it's the result of all your training so far, and you're out there to have fun! You gotta eat today, and tomorrow morning... then I know it's hard with all those butterflies.

And don't worry about missing the start. I did once At least there was no kicking around me when I got into the water. Also, last year at NJ State, I forgot my chip, but they were nice and gave me another one. So no matter what goes wrong, there is a solution.

Thanks Chris.  I am definitely feeling better now.  That bike ride shook out the butterflies.  I am looking forward to the entire experience and my only goal is to just finish and am feeling confident enough in my training that I don't think that will be a problem.   My husband is also competing in the sprint, his first year as well and is so much calmer and I think his calmness is contagious.

Nerves are normal. This is my 3rd race (all this year) and I'm still nervous. Definitely make sure you eat/drink enough for the race and everything else will be the results of your training. I'm about to head out and over to register (luckily live 3 miles away). Good luck to you.

OK, I'm no Sprint, and no first-timer, but after I saw the swim course, I'm freaking out too. It looks so awfully long.

Randi, whatever happens, remember you can always switch to breast-stroke, or even back-stroke for a few seconds.

Don't worry - just remember that you can stop, tread water, start again, backstroke, etc. You'll do great!

Funny thing is that even seeing the swim markers today,  that is not what had me freaked out. I think it was just the emotions coming over me that something that I had been preparing for over the past year is finally here.  I am so excited now and definitely ready and can't wait for tomorrow.   Good luck to everyone tomorrow!
