Andy,

Sounds good Andy.  I'm sure I'll see you up there.

I'm going to be up there early Friday morning for a swim and a little riding.  You are more than welcome to come along.  As we get closer to the event, I'll post up a meeting spot and times.

Matt - I am thinking about capping off this season with this event in Tawas (provided that my knee heals up). Where are you staying? I've never been in that neck of Michigan and it would be good to get some insights.

Thanks, and hope all is well!

I can't remember the name of the place, but I did post it farther back in this thread.  I've never stayed there before, so I can't vouch for the place.  It can't be too bad.

Howdy all,

I'll be up there Friday afternoon. I'm taking a half-day on Friday so I can get my packet that afternoon. If anyone is looking for a place to stay Oscoda isn't too far off either. I'll be staying @ Old Orchard campground, just west of Footsite, Friday night.

Sure, I'd be up for a swim Friday evening. I'm not quite sure what time I will probably be in Tawas around 4:00 I hope. I'll be leaving Warren right around 11:00AM with a quick stop in Kawkawlin to pick up all my other stuff from my folks house.

Unfortunately, I just looked at the weather report. It show's Thunder storms for saturday with a 30% chance. Hopefully it changes for the better as the week goes on. I won't mind racing in the rain, but thunderstorms would suck on a steel bike.

Sounds good Jason.  I'm staying just up the road from the park.  Less than a mile.  I think that's close to the hotel too.

What event are you doing?

It was only looking like 20% chance of precip this morning. I've been watching it. I hope the outlook improves through the week.

If there are thunderstorms, they'll call the race off. They can't have folks spread across that kind of area with the risk of lightning and dangerous winds. Especially with the swim being on the big lake.

For the surrounding days, they are not showing anything more than 30% chance of precip.  That's a good sign to me.

I am either doing the sprint or the oly. I have not made my mind up yet. When you sign up it said sprint/olympic so I guess I can choose at the race.

So the chance for T-showers on Saturday is now up to 40%.....argh!!!!!!!

There is however a slight glimpse of hope. Apparently there is suppose to be AM showers on Friday morning. Hopefully those will move up to afternoon showers Friday and we'll end up with a sunny Saturday with evening rain! That's what I'm hoping for.

Why is that? I'm sure we could get a triathlon done before it would rain around 7:00PM or so?

I hope it doesn't take me THAT long to do the sprint. LOL.

I don't want to ride on wet roads.  Either from the night before, or from rain during the race.  I don't want any surprises out there.  I think there are a couple fast descents.

Come on Matt, a little rain will make you a little tougher out there, plus it washes away your pee as you ride along and seeing the occasional lightening bolt gives one good pucker factor.

Well just recieved the email from 3D. They seem pretty optimistic for this weekend. Could be a good sign?

Andy,

I sure hope so.

Here is my plan for Friday.  Get on the road about 7am or so.  Be up there around 9am.  Drive the bike course in my car right away.  That should take me until about 11am, including a stop or two.  When I'm done, I'll head over to the cabin where I'm staying, let them know I'm there and grab my bike.  Ride the run course to Alabaster and back.  That won't take too long.

I'm free to get in a swim and go to packet pickup, up until about 5pm or so.  My family will be getting up there soon after.  I'm just going chill with them after that.

If anyone wants to get together for any of that, I'll PM you my cell number.

I think I am leaving around 9am. I would like to ride the run to get the rust out of the legs after the drive. I could also swim after.

I should be ready to ride by noon or so.  Honestly, I'm pretty flexible.  I'm most likely going to ride the entire half marathon course, pretty easy pace, with a couple quick pickups.

I can't remember if you've got my number or not.  I'll send it your way.

Jason, I got your PM.  Should we just plan to meet at the park at noon?  Instead of parking my car at the cabin and riding in, I can drive and leave my wetsuit and stuff in the car.  That simplifies things a little bit.

Well, the weather was less than ideal, but it was a great event on a really nice course.

I know I've been rough on 3D, because I felt they were too busy to put enough effort into every event, but they did a really nice job here.  I had a few little gripes, but nothing huge.
