I always think "Just a little farther and I will be done."

I also think about all the goals I hope to achieve in this sport (like the one in my signiture ). It is very motivating for me!

Not a good mantra, but a line I tend to repeat on the run after seeing mile marker signs - "That's all?!?!?!"

On my frist tri I use a bunch of the Pre quotes that are in the quote data base..."you can quit, no one else will know....but you will" stuck with me.

I also talked myself up the hill on the run with..."see that man on the top of the hill, you can turn around when you get to him...then it's downhill.  You can do that"

My second tri I forced myself to stay in the water cause I had never raced OWS and knew once I got out of the lake I'd be ablt to do the rest (albeit slowly...) it was a travel race and I wan't going to listen to my family fuss that they traveled out of state for me to DNF.

That's my thing. I don't want to waste the money traveling and entering up to get a ride back in the meat wagon.

"If everything seems to be under control then you aren't going fast enough"

Saw this in slipstream ad, good motivator for a big hill on the bike: "The hills.. they fear me"

If you are serious about your goals, drop the conditions. Go directly to your goal. Be your goal. Conditions are often disguised strategies for escaping accountability.

Maybe my favorite:

"Everyday you get better or worse. Its your choice. So what's it going to be today?"
