Pre-race routine:

Cold dark, Sept morning, it felt more like October.
Woke at 4am, made it to the race site by 530am.
Consumed some breakfast and fueled with Hammer products, Heed, race caps.
Event warmup:

Streching, 1/2 mile slow run. Pre swim warm up, came face to face with a large sunfish gazing at me in the water wondering what the hell I was doing in the lake at 0650am.
Swim
  • 09m 28s
  • 704 yards
  • 01m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Never swam so fast, all of the open water swim training has paid off!
It was hard to see the buoys. Lined up front and center, this was a tame crowd. Drafting works well, able to conserve some energy due to less resistance.
Transition 1

1/4 mile run from lake to T1.
Bike

Comments:

What a piss poor ride. I was not prepared, I did not even have proper bike shoes and pedals, I felt as though I was not getting enough power transferm. I made the mistake of lowering my seat post a few days before the race. Again I feel that in doing so I felt as though I was working too hard and not getting enough power and motion.
What would you do differently?:

As above, I think I should become better acquainted with my bike.
How about a proper fitting, a forward seat post, pedals, shoes and aerobars!!

Run

  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good on the run, I was happy with the sub eight minute pace.

What would you do differently?:

Go balls to the wall the last 1.5miles, it's a sprint after all!
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of walking, stretching. L achillies tlc.

Event comments:

When I looked up my results, the only thing that was posted was my bike time. Im glad I could rely on my garmin forerunner, It gave me all of my times. Im a little peeved when you pay good money for a race which is chip timed, and you do not receive all of your times including swim,T1 bike T2 and run followed by complete times.
I am not familiar with the timing company they used this year. But last year they used Greystone timing which provided splits and transition times. I am not quite sure if I would do this race again. I think now I will focus on the Olympic distance, However I would definitely do the Hyannis Sprint again in Cape Cod.
