I used to do nothing day before race. Now that I'm fitter I will do a hour workout mostly in zone 1. I take a rest day about every 6 weeks so doing nothing for two days feels off. This week I did much less than I normally do but St. As is a C race for me as my big race is Ironman Canada in 4 months.

Swim do you guys want to meet Saturday at 10 at swim start?

I'm in for dinner.

But I will likely work out on my own and just see people if I see people.  I believe I have short swim/bike/run all....

TRAFFIC      WARNING ---   WARNING  ---  WARNING

Guys, there will be a huge congestion on I-275 in the Tampa area all weekend long.  If you need to cross from anywhere east of Downtown Tampa into St Pete from the East side - coming in the direction from Orlando, I suggest you take I-75 S and cross over the Skyway.  It is longer route but you will only add 15-20 minutes.  275 (3-4 lanes in either direction) will have 2-3 lanes closed.  I would starting tonight.  Unless you want to leave today and get there on Sunday morning, AVOID this stretch of road.  Another alt. is elevated expressway but my guess is that'll be most other people's 1ary choice.

BTW: gulf water on FRIDAY AM is 75F, meaning bay water should be 78-79 - too close to threshold, I say bring your wetsuits, chances are you'll be allowed to wear it.

Good luck to every one, especially BTers.  Kick sum butt! Especially your own shadow's.

I am shortly on my way to race venue with plans of bike/run brick and swim.  David (trinole) your phone goes straight to VM so will try you again when I am near your hotel.  Plan to be at expo this afternoon - will be wearing a Suntheanine tech shirt for expo.

I heard there is no bag check!   My wave is at 8:05, so basically I will be walking around in my wetsuit for a few hours with nothing (no cell phone, extra shoes, etc...).   Any ideas out there?

Ditto on the traffic delays.  However, I would not go all the way down and around.  If you are coming from I-75, take the crosstown to Gandy and go accross Gandy bridge and down 4th street.  There will not be much traffic at 5am sunday morning on Gandy, but I-275 is suppossed to be a cluster.

As far as bag check in, there is not one.  Buy a pair of $1 flip flops from CVS and just toss 'em in a garbage can at the start and carry your wetsuit over and put it on over there.

Guys, remember the official water temp for the race is taken by the RD. Doesn't matter what you read on weather.com or whatnot. Be prepared for a wetsuit swim. If it is at all close, they will make it wetsuit legal.

David and I just biked, ran and swam - the venue is gorgeous.  No way am I wearing a wetsuit - the water is warm, it is saltwater so felt pretty buoyant without it...I think I would overheat....

530 it is...just confirmed.  I don't think there are reservations, but when I coordinated the dinner last year (with help from Jamie) we made reservations and we wound up not even using most of them.  Plus the restaurant wasn't really busy except for us.  So I'm sure we'll be fine.

Swim start by the pier on the left side where there is a small beach. Look for the porta potties....and you know you are close.

Public Service Announcement!

If anyone is still in need of a room, or wants a nice room close to the start, my B&B had two no-shows so she now has two open rooms!

www.laverandabb.com

Very nice place with reasonable rates and very convenient to the start!  You can give her a call at 727-224-1057.

TriRSquared - 2009-04-27 2:44 PM So a day later and still no discussion about canceling the swim?

I think it sucked but from a PR standpoint it was the right thing to do.  They about got crucified in the media in 2006 for not calling the race.  That year it was pancake flat when the pros went off then got pregressively worse to about 4 foot seas when my wave went off at 8:30ish.  This year with surf that big before the race started they really didnt' have a choice.  Unfortunately a lot of people toe the line at that race who can barely swim 1500 meters in perfect conditions.  If something had happened it would have been a disaster for them.
