With less than 4 months to go, we need an official thread. Who's excited? I definitely am, but I'm a little scared of the winter training!

The bike workouts are becoming tough to get in due to the weather-Yes, even cold here in Bama! I refuse to ride a trainer. With this early date, we could see any range of temps come race day-FUN STUFF Surprised

I guess I should start training, I have not done any tri training since April (IM Arizona)! I might run tonight. It should be a fun race.

No worries ... we have plenty of time. I am just trying to keep off the winter fat so that I can hit the ground training in January. An April Half has always helped me jump-start the season. Looking forward to it.

Can't wait, I've been slowly getting back into training the past few weeks. Look forward to this race.

I am in Base 1 Week 3 with a another long bike ride scheduled at 3:30 or 70mi. I live in Kansas City. Already had to put one long ride on the trainer. Sounds like the next one is too. I ride on the trainer now at least 2xweek, with other 2 rides outside, but at 8F no way outside. Swim and run are unaffected by weather. I run outside no matter what, including today at 8F with the wind. This will be my first 70.3 race, first crack at this distance. I am bringing my wife and kids along for a few days to New Orleans. Should be fun. Looking forward to it.

If I start training in, oh, February or March, I should be good to go, right?

Our race is the soonest (I think) yet we have the quietest thread. We need to do something about that!

I've been getting things started the past few weeks, just trying to stay injury free for this one. Will I put some bad voodoo on myself if I throw out the time I want to finish in?

I take a 90 minute CompuTrainer class 2x a week and have been planning on riding longer on the weekend, but have not done so....YET!  I have been running, swimming and strength training since IMKY, just doing whatever I want each day.  I really need to get on a focused training  plan in 09!

Three weeks of pretty good base stuff in.  Capped it off with a half century ride Saturday and a 12 mile run on Sunday.  It was good to finally ride outside as I was getting really sick of simulating long rides on my trainer.  Kinda easing things back and recovering a bit this week.  And eating and drinking too much.  I do have a half mary on Jan 3rd, and then it's all race specific training for April 5th!

I kinda can't wait to get going.

I've been incredibly lazy and also eating and drinking too much. I just got back into swimming after a long shoulder injury/recovery. I haven't touched my bike. But my running is great and I have a half mary every month this winter which should help with the training. After the New Year it's officially on. No more excuses for me!

My training is going great.  Next week is the end of Base 2.  January will be Base 3 then two Build periods, Peak and then Race.  Can't wait.  This will be a fun race.

You mean people are already training?

I've spent the last four months living out of hotels and traveling around the globe for work.  In two weeks I'll actually move back to the states and by Feb should be back in my house.

Maybe New Orleans was a bit optimistic but who said procrastination can't work?

Looking forward to the challenge!

They have racer lists up now. Ch-ch-check it out!

http://www.ironmanneworleans.com/startlistname.php

It hasn't been updated in about a month so don't freak out if your name isn't on there like I did. They said it'll be on the one released later this month.

Hi Friends,

I just registered yesterday for this race. I am up here in Minnesota with snow and ice on the ground. I have been running on my treadmill, biking on my Kinetic, and swimming at the Y. I will be venturing down to NO to get the season started. Anyone have a take on the water conditions there? Is it really safe for human contact?

Just curious.

Anyone from Minnesota heading down there?

Bill in Rochester

Hey Bill - The water is fine. The most recent water quality tests show the fecal levels well withen the "safe range" - Just don't swallow too much.

You can go here for water quality reports: http://www.saveourlake.org/water_quality.asp  .  The water is fine.

This race is the first weekend in April.  Are you going to do all of your trianing on the treadmill and the trainer?  Or can you get out on the roads sometimes?

I'm doing most of my bike training on the trainer, unfortunately. There's no way to get my bike out in this, especially considering it snowed six inches last night.
