Subject: Numb Toe
Okay, this is the first I'm telling anybody about this. I normally get numb on the balls of my feet and toes after long races, but know it goes away. I did IMFL on November 1st and all toes were numb. The feeling came bak in all but one. How can I wake that toe up or is this permanent nerve damage? Yikes? What kind of doctgor should I see if any and what can be done if anything? I've been too embarrassed to talk about this with others, but am coming clean.
Thank you,
Rhonda

Yeah, Yikes.  There's no reason to be embarrassed about this - if anything you should be prould that you're a real athlete suffering from real athletic injuries...now you just have to overcome this little obstacle.  First things first - see your regular doctor.  They can give you a much better idea about what is going on than any of us here who aren't evaluating your foot.  Generally, the longer you wait to deal with an injury (more than just bumps or bruises), the worse it will get.  So don't delay.

Your doctor can tell you what is going on (ok, usually) and if you need to be referred to a specialist, most likely a podiatrist, but he/she may decide on another doctor such as a neurologist.  Be sure to tell them everything you can about how it happened, slow or rapid onset of pain, shoe type, etc.  What event were you in when it happened..things like that.  The more your doctor knows, the better for your foot.

Good luck!
