Subject: Ann Arbor area running
I know there is a good number of people on the forum from Ann Arbor, and hoping to get some expert help. I have started running during my lunch break, and today I ventured a bit off the beaten path to where I had to back track a good distance.

I work at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor on Fuller Rd. I am interested in running along the river like between Geddes and the U of M hospital.

I guess my questions are:

1. Is this a website that shows all the running type trails in Ann Arbor (along the river, thru the campus, etc)?

2. On my run along the river starting at Gallup (sp) park, I noticed wooden 4x4 posts with numbers on them. Are they mile markers? Are they just posts in the event of a problem and its help responders find you?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Curt

1.  You can map routes via the router function which is located in training log page - just input your zip or city and map away.

2.  I want to say yes.  I've run Gallup several times... and they do mark distances.  However, Gallup is a bit confusing as it splits between Huron Parkway.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. Yes, I think I found a couple of those splits.

Curt:
You know when you cross the bridge in Gallup going west, it also goes into Fuhrstenburg (sp?) Park, which in the summer brings some welcome shade

There is a great group that runs out of Running Fit on Liberty that I joined.  On Saturdays are long runs that drop ins are $5 and the routes always incorporate nice hills and have water stations.  There are also runs during the week out of RF but not sure of the times.

The Ann Arbor Tri Club I also believe meets in Gallup Park but I have not met up with them to run, just see the emails that come through. You could also tri www.aatriclub.org.

In addition to BT routes, I use mapmyrun.com both for mapping and finding running routes in the area.

If you have time for a longer run (~6mi) from the hospital try going east down Fuller on the paved sidewalk, left on Huron Parkway at Huron High School, then it's paved sidewalk to Plymouth. Left on Plymouth, where most of the sidewalk is paved, and left on Maiden back to the hospital. You're off the roads, with some hills for variety, the sidewalk is wide and quiet, and it's actually more scenic than I had thought. Used part of that route today.
