So, less than 7 months to go.

I must admit to being somewhat excited, seeing a race I am doing advertised in the magazines.

I have never seen a race that I have done advertised in anything other than maybe a local paper...

My training plan starts on Monday - starting to get excited, hopefully I will stay motivated for the whole 6 months

This looks like it is going to be a really great race. I just looked at the sign up list and it is pretty cool to see that any people in for a race in its first year! Every keep up on your training, can't wait to make it out there to dominate all the Albertans! Go BC!

They have posted a list of entrants on the site, since I sit in front of a computer all day I have already dissected my AG - 110 in the 30-34, 78 from Alberta, 6 from BC, 10 from the US, 6 from Sask. and 6 from distant parts of the world and 5 from other parts of Canada. All done up on a color graph, bar charts and I have been googling everyone to see who the competition is....I think I may need some heavier supervision at work! Here is the link:

So only 4 months to go.................does any one else feel they aren't getting enough of a base.........I guess I just haven't learned how to endure and train in this weather (moved recently from Victoria). I keep on thinking soon it'll be 20 degrees and I'll be on my bike. Previously I'd be in full brick mode by now.......Any idea when we can get some open water swims in?

Who's sick of 3 hour trainer rides!? Can I get a 'hell yeah!'.

Won't be doing any open water swims until June at the earliest up there I don't imagine!

You can still be in full brick mode, if your brick consists of a trainer ride followed by a bundled up outdoor run! We make it work man, we make it work.

Concidering I have ridden my bike a total of 6 hours 51 minutes this year, um, yeah, the base is a worry.

Did I hear someone say that there's only 4 months to go!!!! Holy Crap, I better start swimming! ;-)
Glad to see I'm not the only one feeling under trained right now.. Spring finally showed up in Sask, and running outside doesn't feel like a survival exercise. Now if only the ice would melt off the lake.

So I'm going to make the jump to upgrade my wheelset. My dilema is now that I'm on the Praries, wind seems to be a large concern. So the question is "how deep"........I'm thinking anything over 60mm would be pretty hard to manage in the winds out here. What are some of the opinions of those that have earo wheels? Do the winds die down or are they ever present? Is it a good idea to carry a second set of wheels (on race day) just in case? Would 40-50mm be a good "all round" set? I currently have semi-deep (32mm) wheels but while stiff they are heavy (1800g).

Crazypop and I are going to be in Calgary and are looking to stir it up a bit before the race. Anyone think they'll be up for a meet and greet. Beers, nachos and good times! Regarding the wheel set choices, I'm interested as well, had not thought about the winds on the way back into town.

I looked long and hard at the Williams, a great price point, good reviews and ceramic bearings as well. Although, I emailed and they do have a rider weight limit, so tough luck for me. I was back in BC last weekend and went to my old shop. They gave me a really good deal on a set of '09 Bontrager Areolus 5.0 ACC's complete with tubes/tires/skewers etc. They are one of a handful with no rider weight limit. I'm happy with 50mmm, a good compromise of aero/wind.

They are now filled up 400 short of the 1700 entries. How is everyone's training? Crazypop and I raced in Oliver last weekend and it was awesome, great weather, beautiful course and a lot of great people. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to the Calgary race, hope everyone is getting excited! I'd hate to think I was the only one standing in Ghost lake pee'ing in my suit due to my giddiness to get my race on!!!!
