Subject: Shift Work and Training?
Hi there, I was just wondering how anyone trains while doing shift work.
I just worked 4 days of 16 hours a day. Now I am dead tired.
I was doing so well before I started my last block of 6 evening shifts 3-11pm and now just do not feel like doing one thing at all.
Is there someone out there that has a plan or something out there for people with shift work?
What do you do for motivation?

Thanks.

Constantly rotating shifts really sucks, I did that a number of years ago. You can't get into any sort of regular rhythm. Now I work 3 PM - 1 AM steadily, 4 or sometimes 5 days per week. It works nicely for me because I like doing my riding and running in the morning.

I work constantly rotating shifts. I don't have any magic for you. In general, except for regular day shift, I try to go ot bed as soon as I get home (difficulty due to remaining adrenaline after an ED/flight shift), then do some type of workout, usually home weights as soon as I get up for the day. I do that at a minimum. For workouts, I have to plan ahead for the week to be sure I get it in, instead of just hoping that it will workout. I plan ahead for meals so I don't eat crap. I try to make sure I get enough sleep, so I sacrifice other liesure activitiies (TV, reading, etc) for sleep & exercise.

I think working all those hours took a toll, I did not want to do anything for the last 2 days.
I am starting to feel better now.
The planing around the week sounds good as I work 3 different shifts
6:45-3:15
3:00-11:00
11:00-0700
Its going to be hard to do on the grave yards but I will try my hardest.
Hopefully I can get the ot off my back this month.
Thanks for the advice.
