How many people have planned to do this?  I'm sure there are others that just haven't documented it.  Anybody in the Fort Walton Beach area training?

Anyone know what's going on with this race/series? The April race was canceled and now the website says "Sorry, this site not available at this time..."

I live in Navarre and I just registered for the event.  It will be my first race so it should be interesting.

This will be my first triathlon as well.  I looked at the site, and I did not see anything that says it won't be going on.

I live in the FWB area, but just raced on Saturday and I'm not really sure about what I'm going to do next...

The Emerald Coast Events website is back up now. The main page has a mix of 2008 and 2009 dates and the Triathlon page still list the info for the 2008 series. The April race was canceled and rumor around Tallahassee was the series was being canceled this year. I was debating between this race and the North Florida Olympic in Madison on same day.

I have been looking at the website as well and haven't seen anything that indicates that it will be cancelled.  I certainly hope not.

Yeah, so these races are supposed to be USATF certified, right?  They aren't listed on the website under sanctioned events, so are they cancelled?

I registered for this event in April and was never notified about cancellation.  I had to call Active.com and they too didn't know it was cancelled.  I emailed the event director in regards to the May 30th date.  I won't register until day before.  I also put in a call to the event director at Spinnaker to see if they can confirm the Tri.

Will your registration from April (cancelled race) carry over to the May race? It should.

Don't know if it will carry over or not.  They never deducted the money for the April date.  I'm waiting to see if the director gets back to me.  I did notice the web info was much more detailed this time around and actually had a few sponsors on the page.

Oooo...all the BTers who live near me are coming out of the woodwork.

I live in Niceville.

When are we going to do a Destin/Niceville/FWB/ValP/Shalimar/Navarre BT get together?

That sounds like fun!  Ideas?  Maybe a bike ride?

I love how you try to email or call a race director and you get NO response.  Does anyone know if this race is a go?

A bike ride could be good.  Maybe we could pick a place to ride where we park near a good restaurant and eat afterwards....

That stinks that he didn't contact you!  I haven't heard if it's a go or not.

Great idea -- maybe park in Destin, ride over the Destin bridge and down Okaloosa Island, then back again?

I will admit...98 scares me.  WAY too much traffic and not enough shoulder.  But maybe park in Destin by the mid-Bay bridge...ride over the bridge and down 20 (to the east) if people don't think over the bridge and back is enough.  I guess it would depend on what day we ride.

I was noticing yesterday that there is a Cracker Barrel very close to the mid-Bay Bridge...that is tasty post-ride breakfast....mmmm....

I understand -- I actually had an acquaintance who was riding there years ago, was hit by a car (drunk driver in the morning!), and didn't survive.  I'm a fan of less cars and more bikes, and I actually ride most of the time on Ranger Camp Road.  So over Mid-Bay and down 20 sounds good to me.

Talked to a friend of mine who is the event planner for Spinnaker and she knows nothing about a Triathlon on the 30th.  I'm thinking there will not be a race on the 30th yet again.  She was going to call active.com b/c this makes Spinnaker look bad too.  If I hear something different I'll let you know...

I've done several Emerald Coast races the last few years and have corresponded with Jerry (race director) on a few occasions. He has not replied to me or anyone else from Tallahassee that has attempted to contact him the last few weeks. We usually have 40-45 people drive over for his races. So about 30 of us have registered for the North Florida Olympic in Madison next week.

I have been trying to contact the email on the website with no response as well...very frustrating for a first time participant  Active.com deducted my registration fee for the race so I hope it is not cancelled.
