Good luck racers!!! Heading out of AZ in a bit, driving until we are tired then finishing the drive tomorrow. Personally I am hoping for hot conditions, better for us folks that are coming from 95+ degree temps

Hope everyone has a great time!

It was a great day out there.  Weather was esp. nice on Sunday for the race.  I hope everyone had fun.  Looking forward to everyone's race reports too!

So how was doing two races in two days? Cool

I have two reports on my blog, but haven't gotten them into the BT race report format, yet.

http://fattyfightsback.blogspot.com/2009/05/wildflower-preview.html - about the weekend, not the race

http://fattyfightsback.blogspot.com/2009/05/see-mac-tri.html  - about my race

I think they bumped my thread. Here we go again!

Just finished an amazing Triathlon at Lake San Antonio. Avia Wildflower lived up to all of the expectations. With absolutely no triathlon experience I ended up completing the long course in 6 hours and 42 minutes. The support received by the competitors and spectators was great! Even though I was razzed for riding a mountain bike during the bike portion. LOL! The run through the camping site was epic. You end up running your fastest 2 miles of the course because of all of the cheering.

Lessons I learned during the event.
#1 Go for the practice swim along with all of the competitors before your wave hits the swim. I was dominated the first tenth of the course because I was still warming up.
#2 Take 30 seconds breaks and drink water/gatorade during certain strategic places in the course. (aide stations)
#3 Make sure your bike has a water bottle holder!
#4 Have a good time and soak in the environment/Don't take yourself too seriously!

I'll be back! What a great experience!

I had an amazing weekend too, first Wildflower, first Olympic Distance tri (had done 3 sprints leading up to it) and managed what I thought was a respectable 2:45. I had a number of friends do the mountain bike course and one do the long course saturday, so got to hang out watching them and all of the pros that day, which was awe-inspiring. For my race, I had a great swim (for me!), an even better bike but was under-prepared for the run, had hoped to run my usual 7:30-7:45 mile pace but was a full minute slower and was on the verge of bonking for a good part of the run due to dehydration. I still had a phenomenal weekend and cannot wait to go back next year, next time I'll do more hill running leading up to it
