Sunny
Total Time = 1h 22m 42s
Overall Rank = 154/370
Age Group = M 30-34
Age Group Rank = 23/24
Pre-race routine:

Woke up are 5:30....watched a little SportsCenter, waited for my cousin to get up and around. Drank some Gatorade....clif bar (peanut)...left for the race site (I live 8 minutes away)
Event warmup:

Stretch and that's it.......had my standard clif blox and a gu 15 minutes before the swim.

Finally met Aaron (JeepFleeb)....chatted with him for a second.
Swim
  • 09m 7s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not used to open water starts......the swims are okay. Not much you can do but survive until you get out of the pack (which I stayed in for about half the race.

The water was freakin' cold. Once I got into the groove....I was good to go. Finished at what time I predicted for the swim
What would you do differently?:

Not much....maybe start closer to the front as I seem to be a better swimmer than I thought
Transition 1
  • 03m 28s
Comments:

Not a bad time since there was a 10 mile run to the transition area. :)

What would you do differently?:

Shoes in bike.....need to learn that one.
Bike
  • 40m 37s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 18.32 mile/hr
Comments:

This is actually part of my 'training route' so I knew the course okay (when to shift, when to hammer, etc).....just need to get stronger on the bike. I don't put a lot of time in on the bike so just that alone will help. Running used to be my weakest but since I've focused on that more over the winter, the bike suffered.
What would you do differently?:

More saddle time.....can't complain. I got out of it what I put into it.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Not to shabby.....Didn't have an issue with any of it. Rack was a little further down from the bike in/out, so that added a few seconds. Overall a good performance for me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothin' really......
Run
  • 28m 23s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Wow.....my fastest 5k during a tri (that winter run program REALLY helped). Felt good during the entire run. Forgot to look at watch coming out of T2 so I couldn't gauge what I was running. I thought I was in the 9:30 - 9:45 range (which I would have been happy with).
What would you do differently?:

I would have to say BRICKS but since it's prety early season there hasn't been much time for me to get any in. I can tell that running has improved 100% since last year.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a water and banana...and began the search for my cousin (who finished in 1:09.....luckly he didn't have to wait around too long). Ran back into Aaron and thanked him and Playtri for the event......Grabbed the bikes, loaded up....and headed to Spoons Cafe in downtown McKinney for some breakfast and coffee.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

First race of the season....very happy with what I did.

Event comments:

Playtri folks do an awesome job at their races. If you havn't done one of them yet, I highly recommened it.
