Can anyone tell me if I need my wetsuit for this one? I did horrible on the run yesterday (Kinetic Sprint) due to lack of hill training. Are there any killer hills on the Run segment?

 Thanks.

The wetsuit thing is hit or miss. The water temp is going to probably be in the 70's.
Yes, there's a hill coming out of transition and a gradual hill in the run itself.

Nice thing is if you want to do the bike and run you can do them at any time, the roads are all residential so easy enough to ride.  If you happen to know someone that lives there you can do the whole thing.

Anyone been in the water there recently?  Just curious on the temp, last year looks like no wetsuit, 2 years ago it was wetsuit legal.

Also anyone happen to know if they have race day packet pickup at Montclair?  Setup seems to usually allow it but wanted to check.  I sent them an e-mail 2 weeks ago and haven't heard back as of yet.

Tony you can do pickup on race morning. I did last year and it was no problem. But i feel like they maybe didn't have tshirts left. Can't remember for sure.

Cool, thanks, no biggie on the shirt, setup shirts usually are the first ones that get turned into rags...

My friend and I would definitely be interested in participating in the swim this Saturday!  Can I just show up, or should I RSVP somewhere?

Also, a question for those that have done this tri before.  Are there any time constraints for the Montclair Tri?  This will be my first triathlon of this scale, and I have no time goals.  I'd just like to finish without having to stop/walk, then work from there.  Does anyone know of any cutoff times I need to stay in front of?  Thanks!

Rish

I know I will be swimming Mont Clair around 6:30am-7-am. this Sunday.

I did get kicked out last weekend due to not being a resident of that community.

I will swimming it this Sunday. About 20 minutes out and 20 minutes back to shore.

A resident of Mont Clair stated that the temp was 80 degrees yesterday.

2 of us went out yesterday (Saturday) around 7:15.  Did a 30-minute out and back swim in the lake, 2 loops of the bike course, and 1 loop of the run.  Saw a few others out there probably doing the same.  Finished just before the rainstorm, but I'm looking forward to the race next week.

I didLaughing

Water felt pretty warm when we were out there today, I asked the lifeguards but they didn't know (said I was the 3rd person that day to ask them that).  Pretty sure won't be wetsuit legal unless Setup finds a nice shady spot and drops a few bags of ice in the water then measures the temp.

Roads were in really good condition 2 180 degree turns you have to do for each of the 3 laps.  Should be interesting though fitting 600 some people on a narrow sidewalk for 2 laps for the run.

I know the year before wetsuits were not allowed because the water was about 84 degrees...however, Montclair was held two weeks later. I did a Sprint a couple of weeks ago and the water was 76 - since it was optional, I still wore my sleeveless John and didn't feel overheated. I've been doing the sleeveless, even in water as cold as 70 degrees. If you have a choice, I would opt to bring a sleeveless wetsuit that day and decide based on water conditions.

I just got the info email and water temp is around 78 right now.  Right around the cutoff.  Even though it will hot as hell I'd prefer my wetsuit.  Temp will be posted Friday but with all of these 90 degree days I doubt it will be legal.

Dang, that's like bathwater! I'm sad that I will be out of town on Sunday. I was going to offer to swim for a relay with Z'ers. Races close to home are nice.

Hey there,
Doing this one as well...the buzz on the DC tri club site is probably won't nee a wetsuit. People has checked it out already - around 75 degrees - could get close to 78 by Saturday. I'm bringing a sleeveless, but don't anticipate using it.

Setup Events is reporting water temp this morning of 84F.  Looks like the wetsuit stays home.

Hope to see some BT'ers in the race.  I'll be in my bright red shirt you see on the left.

Cheers,

Haha, that's funny I had a friend today complaining that some guy with a Coast Guard trisuit couldn't swim straight and "wouldn't you think a guy in the Coast Guard would be able to swim straight?" and eventually he got irritated and swim over him.  Does that sound familiar?

The swim course seemed to be easily over 1000m.  What do you guys think?  I know I had a good swim but my pace based on 1000m is not good.

LoL, good to hear, my wife, a friend and I all were really surprised at our times.  I figured I just swam out a bit too far making the turn.

Do you think they could have fit a few more people on the bike course today?

Haha, that was amusing.  They seemed to have things perfectly arranged so that almost everyone was biking at the same time, as well as running and finishing.  Pretty amazed that they were able to do that so well.

I had a lot of issues with people blocking the left side of the bike, but it wasn't due to crowding, amazingly enough.  In most cases they had room to move over but weren't.

I would love for the course to have been long.  It's my first timed OWS, though, so I have nothing to go by.  My time was 1 minute faster than the 1000m I swam in a 50m pool on Friday.  I keep looking every 5 minutes for the results to be posted. Arrgh.

Yeah, that sounds really familiar, I got swam over a lot today.  But nobody said hi
 to me    Cry
I'd like to tell myself that I was swimming around to make sure everyone was safe, but swimming is just plain bad.
